A wish I've wanted to put in for a while now.
The Battle of Britain Spitfire
MkII had the 1,175hp Merlin XII and wider bladed props with a fatter more rounded spinner exclusive to the MkII.
920 Mk IIs were built. Of them the majority were Mk IIa, 750 of them, with eight .303 Browning machine guns. While 170 were Mk IIb, with two 20mm cannon and four .303 machine guns
Not as fast as the MkI but more combat capable in terms of climb and acceleration.
611 squadron at RAF Digby (less than 5 miles from where I grew up,) were the first to recieve MkIIs in August 1940. 611 squadron were released from reserves, forming part of the Duxford Wing led by Gp Cpt Douglas Bader. 611 were moved south 4 months later and joined 12 Group. MkIIs were phased out a year later for MkVs.
