New ISP Adjustment
« on: October 21, 2012, 05:08:38 PM »
I was on a week ago when Skuzzy was talking about how they had changed something with their internet connection. I just wanted to say I am glad that we are working on new things, but ever since I have seen allot more warping throughout the arenas, as have a couple of my squaddies. I am not a fan since it has made it less smooth for me. Anyone else have any thoughts? Noticed anything different?

I looked for a thread on this topic and came up dry.

A lot more mini-warps since the change over.

I've noticed that too.

You guys should run ping plotter and post the runs for Skuzzy to look at. I know my run went from 16 hops to the old server to 10 with the new. My pings look about the same and I haven't noticed anything different in the game. The more info Skuzzy has the better the decision he can make when it comes time to decide which server to use.

I notice a lot more enemies warping since the change also. Like 1 in 8 will warp.. It is noticeably worse.

Yes, lots more mini warps.  :(

check through ping plotter if the causes is this ho; 207.88.14.34.ptr.us.xo.net

This hop I believe may be the very cause of any connection woes. The ping through it is unstable to say the least

I cannot do anything with the above comments.  They do not provide anything really useful.

We know there have been ongoing problems with Comcast.  Nothing we can do about that.  We also know the new ISP location has had a poor route for the British players, but they have been working on it and for most it should better better now, or the same as before (they are using the same route as the old ISP).

The new ISP has direct connections with 11 Tier 1 backbone providers.  Our current ISP has one connection.

Every analysis I have run to anyone in the U.S. shows the same levels of performance between both ISP's.  They also show the same problems, as they are pretty much using the same routes.

However, the Internet is a dynamic beast.  What is true today, may not be true tomorrow.  Without data, there is little I can do.  It is within your power to check your own connection.  You do not have to listen to me or anyone else.  Grab Ping Plotter, and run it to the following IP addresses (the longer the run, the better):

New: 66.151.248.2
Old: 206.16.60.38

I need both to be able to compare.  I will then run a test to your location and see what it looks like as well.

This way we get real data which can help far more than general comments will ever do.

Thank you.

Ok, sure I can do that... However I was going off of stability before, and that you ran it that first weekend and said I was a little worse. I was just asking the community at large if others had noticed the same thing or if it was just me, not screaming fix it. Although yeah, if it wasn't broke for me before and is worse now, sure that is irritating. How long should I run it and how do I post it? I found a file, save image command and saved that.
