This can be rather irritating. Just a couple of days ago I had a knife fight with snailman that I filmed. The film showed that I manouvered safely out of gun solution above him but he shot behind me killing the pilot with first hit. How do you fight against an enemy that flies in your past? You need to move pre-emptively away from guns solutions.

Welcome to my world, as it goes both ways. When I fight for, let's say someone from Australia, out total combined lag can make things interesting in that regard for both of us.

The timing didn't change at all.

Becasue you are still firing at the representation of the enemy plane on your FE ('screen'). The gunfire timing would only change if it was important how things look on the other FE, but it doesn't.
So you still pull the trigger at the very same moment you see the enemy plane in this or that correct position.

I'm going to disagree with you here... as I have been playing on wi-fi since September.... if the con's position changes on your end as you get closer, then I found myself shooting earlier and holding the trigger down longer than I would have in the past because of the micro-warps that apparently are inherent to this type  of connection... you just don't know if the con is going to micro-warp ahead of where you're seeing him, behind where you're seeing him, or not at all... so I found myself compensating by shooting earlier and holding down trigger longer... from my experience it definitely affected the "timing" of my gunnery.

This would better illustrate the point I was trying to make, altho I was looking at it from an defensive to offensive timing when you weasel out of what you think is guns solutions and expecting to nail them as they briefly cross past.  This is where I see it most noticeable.  It's almost impossible to know the other guys connection/view before an egagement.

Way back with the original dueling ladder, this is exactly why I was briefly bumped from the top rung, disparate connections in a knife-fighting environment.  I re-challenged with the knowledge of that connection, adjusted, and won my spot back.
Surrounded by suck and underwhelmed with mediocrity.
I'm always right, it just takes some poepl longer to come to that realization than others.
I'm not perfect, but I am closer to it than you are.

For the first 6 or 7 years I played I played with a fairly poor 28K dial-up connection, that generally hovered right around 250ms ping time.

I then upgraded (er, the internet came to my house in the sticks) and now have a much faster connection with pings in the 65-75 range.

When I made the connection transition I was unable to discern any difference in game-play, or shooting, or timing of any sort.

At one point in there (with my old connection) I made a substantial computer upgrade.  I noticed a massive change to game-play and shooting at that point (everything got much easier).
