More drones
« on: April 04, 2014, 09:29:20 AM »
I wish I could extend my (presently non perked) bomber formations by depositing perks for extra drones..............

say

150 perks for each of the 4th, 5th & 6th drones (a 2nd formation @ 450 perks)

300 perks for each of the 7th, 8th & 9th drone (a 3rd formation @ 900 perks)

So for 1,350 perks at risk I launch 3 formations

I'm 50/50 on this.

I just don't like the idea of 6 or 9 buffs having all those guns controlled by one player, all shooting at one target. Seems a little OP.

I was unsure of my feelings on this wish, then I thought about 999000 and I am pretty sure this not a good idea.  :uhoh

But there's only one 999000  ;)

Not arguing for or against the proposal, but...

At the proposed perk levels, multi buff formation would be still quite rare after an initial 'craze' period. And after all, it's still just one gunner now fighting hordes of fighters all being very eager to remove your perks...
A current 3 player, 9 plane box (using the .wingman formation option) is far more dangerous than a single player, 9 bomber box could be because  of it's increased SA and the ability to engage several attackers at once.

-1 We should keep it three, like Snail said…

Much better to find two other people to fly with than lose your formations to many attackers. Saves you perks  :aok

True, his name is the only one that really sticks in my head, but I get the general sense having attacked quite a few guys in bombers there are probably a half dozen guys that play regularly who are near his level, and probably about a dozen or two more guys who are no slouches.  The rest are kind of fodder though. ;)

Agreed on all counts.  Now we just wait for the heads of the guys who think bombers are all overpowered currently to explode.

If you think you are having a 1v1 in the Main Arena, your SA has failed you.

I figure their heads will implode THEN explode. :)

Albeit my wish

I would agree that it would not see massive use at the perk levels indicated which is really why I chose them. The idea of a couple players burning a big bunch of perks flying 18 buffs deep over enemy soil..... appeals.

All those guns only converge at  one point. Given a good degree of formation separation I don't see a massive increase in defensive lethality and it's only useful for carpet bombing due to the payload separations cross the formations.

But it would be fun :devil

Wouldn't make that much difference at convergence, but for the 150 yards just inside and just outside convergence, I think you'd see a lot more lethality because of the volume of fire at different angles giving way more chances for people to get hit on the way in.  I get hit way more at 450 or 750 yards than I do at 600 unless the gunner is really top shelf.

the convergence for guns separated by 100-150 yards would make it hard a single gunner to be effective with all the guns of a 5-7 plane formation.  :old:

btw what is the convergence set at for bomber formation guns?  :headscratch: Im supprised we can not adjust this. A huh we need a new topic here.

Ah, sorry.  The unadjustable convergence for bomber guns is 600.  That's where your guns on your formation will meet more or less.  Never actually 'patterned' the entire formation...  Curious now.

Adjustable convergence is unlikely to occur, as it's been asked for forever.

That was what I meant in the 750-450 range, 150 yards either side of convergence.  You'd have three times the volume of fire we get currently in a shotgun pattern inside that 300 yard long box, and I think that would be pretty tough to survive.

As amazing as this sounds to the part of me that likes to go out buff hunting, the part of me that likes to fly buffs now and again would have to -1.

First of all, it would make those 30+ manned bomber raids extinct. Second, I think it starts to get pretty arcade-ish when your able to just buy more bombers for you formation and increase you chances of success that way. The Gunner issue could be solved by having some of the planes guns manned by AI, but from what i can tell the community is against any sort of AI assistance for players.

you already get killed at 1500 yards with the .50 cal with a set of 3 ..... imagine 9 of them ...
