Very nice BJ........  I just had a friend make a Bowie knife handle out of Rattlesnake for me.........and it all slides into a Python sheath......

Also have a fishing rod he did for me....Saltwater rig...with Rattlesnake accents

Are they? I didn't know that. What kind of rattlers out there? I've never looked it up, my family in IL/IA/PA never mentioned rattlers so I figured it was a SW, desert & Rockies thing. Do you have several species?

Every state except Alaska and Hawaii have rattlesnakes. There are some that claim they do not (Delaware), yet they are bordered by states that do.

Wow...that's about the dumbest statement I'm seen in a long time.  :old:  Allow me to enlighten you and others that have the same faulty thinking in regards to wildlife.  It's relatively simple bottom line...MOTHER NATURE WILL MAINTAIN THE BALANCE WITHOUT Human intervention.

Creatures go extinct due to NATURAL causes OR HUMAN intervention. We (humans) still have not learned to live by the simple rule of "LIVE AND LET LIVE"

Animals hunt to survive..the days when humans had to hunt/kill to survive (at least in all the civilized countries) are long gone.

By the way... IMMHO, Trophy hunting is simply a result of a mental deficiency.  :old:

Yeah, they say the timber rattler has disappeared there. I think I have heard of at least a dozen "extinct" species that reappeared, so I don't believe that about Rhode Island either.

Plenty of times in surveying we were told the historical markers had disappeared (it's illegal, but people do disturb them) only to find them when the PSM looked in person.

I don't think you googled Rhode Island Rattlesnake...it's nothing to do w/ snakes with a rattle.

We have a large and healthy population of them here in PA.  We actually have the largest and healthiest population of Timber Rattlers of all the NE states.  I've come across them quite often hiking....needless to say we have an understanding.....I give them room, they give me room and all will be right with both our worlds.    That said, never had an issue, I will look at them for a little bit then walk away before they get to stressed
