My cousin was getting a whooping with one of these.  My aunt had chased him down and got 2 licks on his rear when the spoon broke in half.  With teary eyes he looked over his shoulder and saw the broken spoon and said "I guess they just don't make 'em like they used to".

My aunt couldn't stop laughing.  That day my cousin beat the system lol

Great story... My mom broke a few too.

However, Amazon has them at 3 for $5.44!

@ $1.81 per beat down my mother would have considered that economically viable.  I used to get a switch from a huge boxwood we had.  She didnt even have to get off the front porch to retrieve one of the WMD's

Poor sap comes with many memories, prospective grand children, children who will look after aging parents.

Just saying...paying up front typically reaps rewards later on in life.
