Two quarterbacks from Michigan are transferring out of the U of M according to today's sports. Why?
For next year, Michigan has a lot of quarterbacks. Only one of them will be picked to be the main one.
I suspect that Speight and Malzone knew that they would be not be the main quarterback next year. If they want to play, they need to transfer.
Next year, Michigan has Brandon Peters (put in this year after Speight and O'Korn and did OK enough to be considered for starter, but not a lock), Dylan McCaffrey (#1 ranked pro-passer in his recruiting class) and new recruits Joe Milton (4-star recruit) and Kevin Doyle. There is also the possibility that Shea Patterson (5-star recruit who went to Ole Miss) will transfer to Michigan.
Going into this year, Michigan was an unknown with almost no starters returning. People were thinking they'd end up 9-3 or 8-4, losing at least to Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Penn State. It turned out that the defense was great, but the offense was not and was plagued with injuries (starting QB, backup QB, best WR, best RB, another WR, another RB, TE, OT, OG). Even so, they weren't horrible on offense. They played pretty decent games against Ohio State, Michigan State, and Wisconsin (although not well against Penn State). They ended up 8-4.
I think they'll be better next year. Will they beat Ohio State next year? Of course! (Well, I like to have a positive attitude.)
