as much as i hate to admit it when you look at msu they are really good. offensive line is senior healthy and good, qb is senior and good, wr are skilled in every slot, and burbridge is nfl caliber, rb all four are good.  on defense this is where they are scary good up front they simply dominate, they must be near the best, lb are skilled and play the game tough, secondary is young and their biggest weakness but if you give them a chance they would be happy to make you pay.  i have not watched the top four play, they will need to be at their best to beat sparty and the iowa game should be a good game.  i would guess the strengths will match well like msu vs osu and msu vs michigan.

does the other three have a defense that can stop the run and smash cook with a 4 man rush?  can the pass the ball at will with a nasty fast rush in your qbs grill?  that is what it will take to beat sparty at her best.

of course msu has a nak for losing when they are on top, a typical spartan flop!  :neener:

p.s. dont tell dantonio i said that:bolt:

Man if Keenan Reynolds dont win the Heisman it will be an absolute shame. The guy runs a read offense that means he has to make the correct read on every play(no simple hand off to the rbs) he is graduating form a service academy while breaking records and leading Navy to a 9-2 record. Then ESPN and Nissan decided to pull his name form thier fan voting ballot:

hes leading the vote by fans rite now.  i had to write him in though.  :salute #damtheman

Bama's front 7 is very/very good.  Statistically, they rank number two behind Boston College in total defense.  Derrick Henry leads the Nation in total rushing yards.

Bama is currently:

#1 in rushing defense
#20 in passing defense
#3 in total sacks
#1 in defense efficiency

However, in ESPN's football power index (FPI), Bama is #2 behind..... Oklahoma.
http://espn.go.com/college-football/statistics/teamratings

Having said that, Bama can compete with any team on any given day.  They have the talent and coaching - they just need to put together a complete game.

Yep.

I think that it will depend on who has everything clicking that particular day.  If it were best of 7 games, then the variability of any given day would matter much less.  But when it is one game, the game to game variability matters significantly.

Even the final games.  UNC is a very good team, and Florida can be very good, too.  If they play particularly well, they are capable of upsets -- it's not a chance of zero, just a lot less than 50%.

There is even still the chance that Ohio State gets back into the playoffs if Clemson or Alabama lost by enough.  Maybe not highly likely, but possible.  I would like to see two Big 10 teams in the playoffs.  :)

Alas, the rumor is that Maryland will lure away Michigan's DJ Durkin as Maryland's next head coach.   :cry

Durkin is a good one.  I, too, think he'll do well at Maryland.

I hope Bama beats Florida convincingly and Michigan State wins big.  State jumps Oklahoma who is t playing this weekend setting up a semifinal between Michigan St and Bama.  I would much rather play Michigan State than the alternative.

I gave OSU the respect they deserved before the game and more importantly, after the game. They were the best team on the field that day
