The most recent "update" of Windows 10 (1511 14295.1000) broke the Wifi auto connect on startup, now I have to re-enter the password every restart.

My Windows 10 recommendation has been downgraded from "If you must" to "You're on your own." 

Check the power management for the wifi device and make sure to disable Windows turning it off.

My favorite heading in the insider updates was, "A Windows 10 quarterly update was not alpha tested today because of a bug."

However, there is a new preview build that "promises" the bugs are now down to just six. Yeah, right!

Windows 10 PC 14316 came out yesterday. {sarcasm}It's for insiders that aren't tech savvy enough to build PCs.{/sarcasm}

I'll look at that but it doesn't sound promising.

Was working fine on the last Windows 10 load...

I've not changed any power settings during the "update".

Everything should be turned off when I power down the laptop.  Wifi shuts down and comes back up without re-entering password when turning on and off airplane mode.  It doesn't want to auto-connect when powering the PC up from actual shutdown, not the new quick-boot(hibernate) that I had to turn off since it boots to a black screen with that enabled.

Problem is probably some change in the new load that doesn't play well with my 10+ year old laptop and the newest drivers I could find for it.

Never, ever assume Microsoft will leave settings alone with any given update.  Always check after any update.

That said, laptops have been pretty problematic with Windows 10.

After checking Power Management and Device Manager and verifying or setting all related power settings for the WiFi to always on or never turn off the problem still exists.

Just as an experiment I even tried turning on airplane mode before shut down since it would auto connect when turning off airplane mode.  That didn't work either, after power up and turning off airplane mode still had to manually connect.

Good thing 7 is supported till 2020, they might have the bugs worked out by then, might.
