The caveat is that most computer speakers cannot produce tones above 15khz.

That's what I was thinking, too. Starting at 15 KHz all I could hear was a snap at the beginning and the end. Happy though since I could hear 12 KHz on the video and 14 on the website which makes my ears much younger than my years.

One of the advantages of poor hearing is the ease of tuning people out.  Like .squelch in real life.  :D

My daughter's cat didn't learn how to make a sound in a frequency that people can hear, she meows in the ultra high register. Her mouth opens but you can't hear anything. Might be interesting to record that, seeing the meters go to red without an audible sound...

And dang! I just tested my phones by letting my 18 y.o. daughter listen to the sounds on the website. She could hear much higher sounds and even feel the sound of 20 KHz, past that only the snap sounds at the beginning and the end. I suspect my headset really can't reproduce past 20 KHz.

It's even better when you've developed the 'that guy can't hear' reputation at work too.

Quite a necro bump, 8 years. And the video is twice that old.

But your question is relevant, none of the answers actually tell the age. So: I'm 62 and I still can hear the 12 kHz buzz but like before the 15 kHz whine only the switching snap is audible to me.

My hearing is shot and I have Tinnitus. People who speak clearly I have no trouble understanding face to face without hearing aids. People who don't speak clearly I struggle to understand even with hearing aids. You might think older people would understand this and practice speaking clearly. Some are as bad as teens.

Our hearing is the best it can be at birth. In the modern world we take on hearing damage from that time on.

Things you wouldn’t think cause damage does. Lawn mowers at about 90db for extended time cause damage. Just being outside with no noises is about 60-70db. The frequencies you are exposed to are the ones that will take a hit on your hearing.

Ever get in a car with someone who works in a steel mill? Their radio is tuned very tinny, all high-end freqs,…because high-end damage has diminished those freqs in their hearing. These booming cars with loud subsonic freqs blasting they are chasing a dragon. They damage their ears with those freqs. Meaning to hear it the same they have to keep turning up those freqs because of damage.

Fact, because females are not usually exposed to things like construction tools hear much better than males. They can hear those high freqs and can hear you whisper to yourself about them. lol. They hear that stuff.

Because I’ve been exposed to all freqs at high volumes !(110db-120db) my hearing has no dips the entire spectrum is burned out, meaning my total volume has diminished equally. Yes I’ve had tinnitus for decades.

The longer the exposure the more damage. 110db fir 45 min, you have damage. Many sound guys get louder and louder to the point of irresponsible to the listener. The band Jackyl was at 122db for 75 min. It was so thumpy loud it made my heart skip beats. I was worried about the structure of the venue, literally.

Its a long subject , but here is a chart
https://www.ncoa.org/adviser/hearing-aids/decibel-levels/

If you spent most of your life in a forest your hearing is awesome compared to someone in a city. Your highest volume is wind.

Every 3db increase is the doubling of volume.

I took the test, and I can hear the mosquito tone! It's interesting how age affects our hearing. How did others do?

Dang!

I was going to ask how you could tell that it's a bot in question as they seemingly didn't try to sell anything, just eagerly continuing the conversation. Agreed, it's their first post ever but then again, necro bumping old threads as first post seems to be common habit on the other forum I'm active on.

But then I clicked the double line on the last line. Never thought there'd be hidden text and a hyperlink in what I thought was a signature work in progress! Thanks, learned something new today!
