You can throw loaves of bread in the freezer to keep them quite a while, Thawing them out has no ill affects on the quality
You can also make your own bread

That was already taken into account in that article.

The current WHO estimate of CFR is 3.4% not 1%.  They were already giving the numbers a significant benefit of the doubt.

I'll continue to prepare as I see fit.  I'll leave it to you to do what you think is best for your situation.

Good luck.
The 1% I mentioned was the infection rate of those tested. That was as of yesterday Not the mortality rate. Which is as we have both pointed out is currently at 3.4% based on the data currently available. But that is expected to drop as the data becomes more complete.

I have a son that works for the government that is in the middle of dealing with this as well as some of the other disaster responses we are dealing with. I think I'll go by what he is saying as he is actually in a position to know

Most experts agree that the mortality rate will more then likely fall to a fraction of what is being reported now as more data comes in. Remember. We have nearly 100 years of flu data and only less then 3 months of data on this specific strain of Corona. And AGAIN
The mortality rate seems to be limiting itself on specific subsets with specific underlying conditions of the population.
We dont yet know how many people who have had it and merely thought they had a mild bug and survived it without ever going to a doctor which they think may be many times more then the confirmed cases.
This mortality rate is only based on confirmed cases of those tested. We know those who died to be pretty accurate because autopsies can confirm. what we dont know is if those sniffles and mild cough you or I had a few weeks ago that we didnt go to the doctor and recovered on our own for was indeed Coronavirus.
This is way too early in the process to definitively say anything.
As I keep saying. Be concerned but be rational. Not ridiculous.
Most of us would avoid anything that would carry an increased risk of getting even the regular flu. In that regard this is no different. Follow the same protocol they actually want you to do for that.
Getting some supplies is rational
Hoarding supplies is ridiculous and only leaves a shortage for everyone. Be rational. You are NOT going to realistically be able to lock yourself inside your house for a month or more even if you have the supplies to do so. Its like wearing a N95 mask. Yea. You will do it for a short while. then you are going to get so annoyed with it that you are going to say screw it. Think not?
do this test. Buy the cheapest level dust mask you can find. Those are also THE most comfortable to wear. then fit it properly. Pinch it around the nose and make sure you have an air tight seal all the way around. BTW if you want to really do it right. You will need to shave that beard too as beards prevent an air tight seal. Now leave it alone. Dont even tough it or readjust it to be more comfortable. This isnt about comfort. Its about survival remember? Now walkaround the house and do whatever it is you normally will be doing throughout the day. remember. DONT touch it or take it off. Now. Lets see how long you can manage that for before you lift to get cool air, adjust it or move it even to scratch your nose. 98% of the population cant handle more then 1/2 hour
We are a species of movers and socializers we instinctively need to be around other people. We hate being imprisoned and isolated which is exactly what you are going to try and do to yourself.
Everybody in a family loves each other right up to the point where they are locked up together. Then it all starts breaking down and before long they are at each others throats

Now if people DONT hoard And just shop as they normally do. They will end up ion places at much lower numbers which is safer for everyone and there will be enough to go around for everyone. Creating shortages because of hording morons will only lead to people congregating in larger masses to try and get what they need before that supply runs out.

Be concerned. Yes. Nobody wants to get this thing no matter how mild they get it.
But be rational. NOT ridiculous

I basically feel the same way.

We have 55 deaths in the US and look at all of this madness. That madness is a product of the media. This is a perfect example of how infectious propaganda can be to control and manipulate the masses. All of these people saying that our federal response is bad is absolutely pathetic. They are the ones fear mongering. They are the ones politicizing this. hope that maybe this will be a chance to clean things and make society less prone to sicknesses every year, but you can see with everything shutting down, it's quite scary for people who only watch MSM to get news. They depend on irrational people. Notice how it's the blue cities who are I'll prepared and the most infectious.  All they do is blame everything on someone else for their lack of preparedness. Let's not forget about the homelessness sickness going on in those filthy places. It's an absolute disgrace what The Gardian and other wrag garbage media outlets are saying. All they have are propaganda artist towing the line for their globalist masters. Pathetic.

The 1% I mentioned was the infection rate of those tested.

The last WHO R0 estimate I thought I saw was 2.3.  This says 2.2.  OK. It's of course an evolving number.  It could get better.  It could get worse.

Quote
Based on data from the first cases in Wuhan and investigations conducted by the China CDC and local CDCs, the incubation time could be generally within 3 to 7 days and up to 2 weeks as the longest time from infection to symptoms was 12.5 days (95% CI, 9.2 to 18).[5] This data also showed that this novel epidemic doubled about every seven days, whereas the basic reproduction number (R0 - R naught) is 2.2. In other words, on average, each patient transmits the infection to an additional 2.2 individuals.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK554776/

CFR is also an evolving number.   It could get better.  It could get worse.

Quote
“Globally, about 3.4% of reported COVID-19 cases have died,”

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/coronavirus-fatality-rates-vary-wildly-depending-on-age-gender-and-medical-history-some-patients-fare-much-worse-than-others-2020-02-26

Most people think that number is too high because we haven't tested enough.  Many people are using S. Korea numbers which would be more in the 1% range.  Hence the NR article.

All those numbers are evolving.  We'll see in the next 3 months what our US numbers look like.  Let's review again say June 15.

If you're still here.

Certainly an interesting time.  Strong measures should be taken to ensure public health.

Scaremongering going on?  Hysteria and paranoia being fed by social media and sensationalist headlines? Yep.  This is a time to be human and compassionate but unfortunately the dominant trait of humans is selfishness.

I think some perspective might introduce some calm.  In the USA last year 38,000 died in car accidents, 4,000,000 hospitalised. These are not isolated numbers,  they are typical of annual numbers.

Act like a careful driver, apply caution and show others respect. Hopefully you will not become a statistic.

Anybody hear anything on casinos loosening their slots during this crisis?

Italy is reporting a death rate of 7.3% and that China is full of sheit that their death rate is 3.4%. Mass graves in Iran indicates a death rate way way higher than 3.4%. It depends on your countries ability to help those who need it. The poorer your medical infrastructure, the higher the fatalities.

And what you're also forgetting about the supply chain disruption. If people are sick, or self isolating, who's driving the delivery trucks? Who's manning the cranes at the ports? The fork lifts at the warehouses? In the office managing the delivery of food and consumer goods? Taking payments? Proccessing invoices?

Our CFR rate right now is almost .2%. I think that skews high because of the early nursing home outbreak.

I'm guessing we'll see .03% -.1% depending on the region of the country. So 3 to 10 times the seasonal flu mortality rate.

That's still a lot of people but it's not like Italy.

When you look at critical care beds per 100,000 the numbers show the US leads with 34.7.
Italy has 12.5
South Korea has 10.6 but still has a low mortality rate.
UK has 6.6
China has 3.6

Numbers are old but so were the total bed numbers.
