Bizman, I think Parts Picker doubled up on your memory, and while Kingston has the reputation of running on anything, I bet the Corsair Vengeance will work just fine. I wouldn't change the Seasonic but I'd look for a better price and put all the savings toward an RTX 2070 if possible, unless he plans to upgrade to a 2080 later.

Sorry to but-in.
Easy in-game again.

Personally, I wouldn't use an i3 for a gaming PC, as some of the newer games are very hard on the CPu.

So far Im kinda leaning to something like this. Since We have the extra cash form the savings of the OS (I'll buy that for her)

Bizmans original listing only swapping out . Or building around these two items.
Good idea? bad?

Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER 6 GB TUF GAMING OC Video Card  ($263.67 @ Amazon)

for

Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER 8 GB WINDFORCE OC Video Card  $399 @ Newegg) (%#)$@ the credit card points)

If she's interested in more recent gaming titles I think its a good idea to get a more powerful video card with more memory and ray tracing support like the 2060 Super instead of the 1660.

Definitely the 2060 if the budget is not stone carved. And the i5 is most likely a must to feed the more powerful card.

@Easyscor, good catch! I already was wondering why the price was higher despite leaving the Windows license off.

2060S, not just the plain 2060. At least the 2060S may do limited RT without massive Fps drops like the non-S 2060

Ok Decided to pretty much go with Bizmans parts list as a base from which to work from

just sent the email to wife and daughter to order 3 parts

Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER 8 GB WINDFORCE OC Video Card”  $399 @Newegg

 https://pcpartpicker.com/product/FYrYcf/nvidia-geforce-rtx-2060-super-8-gb-video-card-900-1g160-2565-000

CPU: Intel Core i5-9600K 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor  ($196.99 @ Amazon)

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/28qhP6/intel-core-i5-9600k-37ghz-6-core-processor-bx80684i59600k

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition 42 CFM CPU Cooler  ($35.99 @ Amazon)

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/HyTPxr/cooler-master-hyper-212-black-edition-420-cfm-cpu-cooler-rr-212s-20pk-r1

Any suggested changes to the following remaining parts?

Motherboard: MSI Z390-A PRO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Memory: Kingston 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-2666 CL13 Memory  ($85.78 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital Blue 500 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive  ($68.95 @ Amazon)
Case: DIYPC Solo-T2-R Black USB 3.0 ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: SeaSonic FOCUS Plus Platinum 550 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply  ($139.90 @ Amazon)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24F1ST DVD/CD Writer  ($17.98 @ Amazon)

Question on the SSD. What kind of slot does that go into? Judging from the picture it looks like a lap top drive..orr it just looks odd.
Never installed an SSD before

another question. I see with this particular CPU it has a designation "Discrete graphics Required"
Does this matter? Particularly in conjunction with the rest of the system?

@Drediock, that's an M.2 disk. On that MSI motherboard (most likely a pretty standard place) there's a vertical M.2 slot for it between the CPU and the PCI-e slot. There's three threaded nuts for various lengths of M.2 and you need a riser nut at the end of the disk to install it flush with the mobo. It should ship with the mobo so check the package.

"Discrete graphics Required" means there's no built-in video circuitry in the CPU (the motherboard video is powered by the CPU nowadays) which simply means you'll have to install a video card.

And as Denniss said, definitely the Super version.

Something your daughter may really appreciate is offering to let her help pick out the case. She might like a particular color or style.

The i5-9600K does have built in graphics -

Are you looking instead at the i5-9600KF?

you can custom paint the case.  give it a nice touch. i painted mine blue with plastic cover front and top bright red.
