haha we have that.  That's not enough. Let's say I look at a map of an airfield and I know that Fighter hangar is 1000 yds W and 200 N of the Vehicle Hangar. Let's say after many tries I hit the VH.
1) Movement of the gun is relative to the gun, not the map. So I have to calculate how to transpose the 1000,200 into new Left/right : farther/Nearer movements based on which way the base is facing on the map and where my boat is relative to the base.   Every time the boat moves, I have to recalculate. But that's impossible because the boat is constantly moving.

2) If the boat sat still I could fire in a pattern until I hit a second target. That would allow me to triangulate the boats range and orientation to the field.  Then I could calculate how to move the gun to hit targets.

Isn't that exactly the way ground mode works?  You can click on the map, or you can move it with your controls, and I always though the adjustment was relative to ground impact position.  Because if you target a spot it tracks with that spot as the boat moves.

I don't believe so. Left means you are rotating the impact point left by say 100 yrds. But left of what? Left in Global coordinates? IF that were the case left and right would have to mean East and West. But I don't believe they do. I think it means left relative to the line of travel of the round. If you are due south of a base (6 o'clock)  Left and right mean East and West. but if you sailed 90 deg to the 9 o'clock position, Left and right mean North and South.

So the changing angle of the boat and the different rotations of the bases mean it's really hard to figure out what going on from a moving boat.  :salute

Ah, gotcha.  That might well be by design.

If you could adjust your fire n/s/e/w with accuracy, it would be pretty easy to map out the locations of everything on a base and once you figured out the orientation angle it would be a pretty simple matter to make relative adjustments from your first impact to take out targets quickly and obliterate the base.

I've seen stopped fleets shelling islands in multiple wars.

This surprises me.  I have not seen film of any sort showing warships at anchor while they shelled the shore.  I would think this was impractical (due to recoil) as well as unwise (due to making the ship a stationary target for submarines and shore batteries).  Could you point me to some sources?

Just wondering.

The ship would move all over from recoil.

I don't believe currently there is a way to stop the fleet from moving.  When shelling Towns and bases the ability to stop would be very useful.   :salute

But also an easy target

Inagree so rather than move the gun in Global coordinates. maybe we could just stop the boat.

Or not. Maybe ship gunning ain't your thing. That's ok, it's not mine either. But there are players that are quite good at it without having to 'stop the boat' (at the expense of other players*).

*Oh look, the fleet is stationary! Much easier to sink now.  :D

There are nights where i can hit anything no matter the distance. Then there are days where I cant hit a port with the cv as close as you can get it.

or come the HTC’s Message board and discuss things that would makenthe game better, and HTC is open to trying it.

Try that with Madden.
