Since I'm American I can only read mph, but everyone else not in the US can read metric, so

In the Flight options in the setup menu you could select the type of speedometer that applies to you?

Yep, same here.  Craft specific

Captured German planes and vice versa weren't automatically touched up with the capturing country's language.

I agree, I think planes should have the same markings and measurements used as they actually had in real life, i.e. metric for the German planes etc.

If the marking were real, or true to historical fact, would'nt the airspeed indicator be measured in knots?

Or is it already?

The reason HTC only uses MPH is because most of their subscribers are US citizens and having to convert kph and meters to mph and feet is a handicap that the pilots of these aircraft would never have had.  It is more realistic, from a performance standpoint, to have the cockpit display data in units that are immediately understood.

That said, I think that an option to switch everything to metric would be good for non-US subscribers as they currently have to convert mph and feet to kph and meters and that isn't really fair.

I must admit that I have been sorta brainwashed by the pure imperial units used in AH.
For all other purposes I swear to metric units, but when talking about aviation and I see that some plane might have a SL speed of 570 kph, I need to convert it to mph to be able to relate to it :)

Still I am all for having the planes use whatever unit they really did.

what a complete load of old hogwash that is!!

a disadvantage to americans because they cant convert to metric??

We use mph in the UK but most of europe use metric. Its easy to go from one to the other and to claim otherwise is to claim yourself stupid.

British planes have the boost system instead of manifold pressure and obviously once you've flown them once you will know that there is no difference. the needle inside a circular readout tells you the information, whats printed on the face behind the needle is almost irrelevant once you know the rough position it should be for any given objective(fuel conservation etc).

the aircraft creaks at high speeds and gives stall warning at low speeds (or sounds like a stall) so there really is no need to do anything but scan the dials.I cannot believe someone is trying to claim they are at a disadvantage because they refuse to use their brains.

I would like to see the real dials for all planes! if the russian one is different and hard to read you fly them for a while and 'what do you know!' you learn to understand them.its easy.

we would get used to them within a couple of days.well of course that is, unless youre American!. That really is a very funny claim and one that i wouldnt go shouting about if i was from the US. its embarrasin' :D

wait, you guys use instruments?!?!

and why's it so hard for you to work out metric anyway?

its piss easy compared to the imperial

12 inch in 1 foot, 3 feet in a yard, god knows how many yards in a mile (both of them)

10mm in 1cm, 100cm in a 1m, 1000m in a 1km
