What's your luckiest shot made.
« on: September 13, 2002, 04:55:00 PM »
I just got mine last night (09/12/2002).  I was in a 5-inch gun on a CV and actually nailed a guy in a pony over 5.5k away.  To say the least, he was shocked, but then so was I. :D

One minute he was heading away from the CV with no bogies around him, the next, poof - it's tower time.

He was a good sport about it though.   to ManeRTF.

The luckiest shot or drop u can say is... I was in a P51 and was heavy with 2k eggs and rockets.  Was approaching the CV and i dive down for divebombing and drop all my eggs and rockets as there were about 12 cons rolling from the same CV... I see them popping as i fall to a untimely death.  The kills start popping up, like how the kills used to be shown.  Got 12 that time.

The only bad thing was when i got killed and flew down to earth was that i had a freeze up of my computer.  When i came back they were sayin how did u get so many kills...Cheater...etc :)

Was very fun...And i still remeber it..fun times.

I was flying an F4U-1, carrying a 1000lb bomb to help in an attack.  By the time I got there, everything was down, except for a bunch of fighters.  So, seeing a spitfire flying in front of me, only a few feet above the deck, I dropped my bomb, and got ready to dive in on him.

Problem is, the bomb killed him before I could dive.

My luckiest shot (other then a couple times I've nailed planes w/ SB, CV main guns, and from a tank w/ the 75mm) was in a different game.

In Warbirds, I was flying a JU-87-G w/ the flak gun.  I was chasing a bomber back to his base and we were both really slow, but he was still pulling away from me.  After 5-10 minutes of chase, he was getting close to his field, so I figured I didn't have anything to lose.  I fired off a shot from what had to be > 5K away, but I couldn't tell because he was out of icon range.  The shot arced up, then came down and hit him square, blowing him apart.

It was beautiful, and he was very startled.

I killed a radar dish with pt rockets once.

It gave me like 80% in vehicle damage vs objects score, and pushed me to 4th place in that category instantly.

I was so shocked that I just sat there staring as corsair's strafed me and 110s dropped bombs on me.

I'd say my luckiest shot was when I was flying an Il-2.  An La7 had just made a pass on me from the rear.  As he was pulling away at around 800yds I fired off 2-3 cannon rounds at him to hopefully scare him off... two rounds hit and promptly peeled off his left wing at 920yds.

Was flying level with a bomb-armed 190 over an enemy base.

I thought the base was clear of enemies so I figured it was a good chance to practice bombing in the 190s when I saw an enemy pop up behind me. I figured there's no way I can survive with the bombs strapped and just dumped the ordinance while flying... when it landed on something looking like an enemy mission and got me 6 kills against planes on the runway.

 ...

I have yet to get anything in AH as freakish and chancy as I got waaay back in DOS Air Warrior, back when all you had to do was lay 12 eggs on the runway to close a field, and was in a B-17 at 30,000' bombing (IIRC) field B80, and just like Wildthing caught a squad upping for a mission, flooding the radio buffer with "a kill has been recorded" messages. I figure I used up my free Fist of God(tm) strike there.

The closest I've managed to come in AH was a full-out panic move when I was flying to attack a town in an A-20 and spotted a 190 dropping down on me from astern as I was setting up my attack run; I figured that I had no real chance, since I was up high enough that he could just swing underneath me and hit my blind spot, so I pulled up into a climb and unloaded all my bombs in a desperate loft somewhere in the direction of the town -- and got four buildings and an ack emplacement with my toss before I died.

My luckiest shot or maybe I should say incredible shot was when I was fighting a spit in an F6F and he tried to scissor me, and he was gaining on me and everything, so I pushed back on the stick after he rolled and bam 2 hits in the wing from 150 away and he was dead. It was really incredible just the way it happened, I wish I recorded it. ALL!

I've hit a few things past icon range with the 5inch gun, funniest was a p47 I fired 3 rounds in his direction and just as the P47 icon popped up I got a direct hit on him followed by 2 puffs.

Luckiest shot ever in a fighter was when I was in a 190a8 with the 30mm loadout. I saw a friendly running back low with 2 spits on his tail, so I roll down and come in from behind them. They both are spraying away so I decide to spray at the farthest one away and get him to break off then kill then close one. At this point the far one is d 800 and his friend is d500 and lower then his buddy, I aim for the far and squeeze off a short 1 sec burst and go to line up on the close one. Just as I line up I see a line of tracers walk down the far one and his wing falls off. Hey I think got lucky, just as that thought was completed, tracers stich up the close one and he promptly explodes. 2 spits with 1 short burst, the 20mm killed the far one and the 30mm killed the close one.

I was returning from defending against an HQ raid and was in a Ta-152.  I was at about 35k (yes the buffs were that high) after killing 2 buffs and was heading home when I saw a con over a base down south.  When I got there, I found it was a P-51 that was at 35k also.  I flew towards him and he did likewise.  I dipped a bit to pick up some speed and reversed as he tried to go for the HO.  I ended up above and behind him, though slightly slower as he was pulling away.  At about 800 yards I fired a quick burst to see if I could get him to jink from the tracers.  The 30mm hit and blew his plane apart.  I'd fired 1 30mm round.

I had 2 luckiest shots.  The first was about a year ago when in a b-17 I was about to drop on a field's hanger.  As I approached the field I noticed an enemy squad all queued up at the end of a runway ready to takeoff.   I dropped a salvo that landed square in the middle of them.  I got 15 or 16 kills and a bunch of harrassment on channel 1.  (good humored harrassment)

My other lucky shot was about 2 weeks ago when I was in a pony trying to protect the DHBG bombers from a group of con fighters.  I had 2 spits on my tail when an ME-262 dove in on me.  I did a quick roll to avoid his fire.  Then pull my nose up a bit to find the the 262 had over flown me and was in my sites at about D400.  I fired a long burst and got ripped apart by the 2 spits but just before I bailed I saw the 262 turn into a fireball and disappear.  Very lucky but one I'll remember for a while.
