"To me, and I bet to a lot of other people, coming to this BBS is simply not much enjoyable anymore because its been riddled with political/religious threads"

Very true.

Good idea Animal.  I agree.

Until then, SOB has a pretty good way of dealing with potentially scurrilous posts, by changing the subject.

And when SOB speaks, people listen.:D

We CAN  fight back by just following his que, and following up.  Soon, the thread will become so discombobulated, it will lose its inertia.

But SOB can't do it alone, and it won't work without a core group of supporters.

Its been my observation you FDBs are talented BBS operators, and I can honestly say I have never (in two years) seen any of you hurl a personal insult at anyone on this board.  Some here may disagree, but IMHO you're darn good role models.  It takes guts and self-discipline to be that way.  Keep on keeping on.  However it is you do it, you're doing it right.

Now, on a more serious note, I want to talk about

 "gruel"

with SOB.  Was a time I used to take roast beef, rice, mushrooms and soup (which kind doesn't matter), and mix them all up into a concoction I dubbed gruel (not the original gruel by a long shot.)  Darn good stuff.  Each time, the ingredients changed, with various combinations of whatever there was to eat.

Any of you guys ever do anything like that?  And what were the most unlikely combinations of ingredients used?  Please just post serious replys.  Example: Tomato soup, pickles, boiled peanuts and bananas would qualify as "gruel" only if it was good.  Btw, I haven't tried this one yet.:D

I disagree.

I mean suppose I hate all the cat-threads or all the look at my car/gun/house/di*k threads where people post pictures of their cars/guns/houses/whatever. I think those threads should be moved to a sub-forum under the Bug report forum...

BUT THAT IS JUST MY OPINION

People like to talk about different things. When I see a thread about something I dont want to talk about, I simply avoid clicking on it. If you want more funny threads Animal...just start more funny threads...if the funny threads dissapear from page 1, but the war/politics/religion/evolution threads stay, that should tell you something about what people want to discuss. You should not try to enforce your personal opinion on the rest of us here.

To diversify the O'club, to split it up into several smaller forums will only lead to a loss of interest in this BB.

Hurl bigtoe,

The problem is, that when I, and many other (probably dozends) of people click on the o'club, expecting to see a discussion on something interesting and entertaining, we only see the same old tired discussion about politics and religion.

Mind you, I dont want you to stop discussing those issues that you oh so love to disagree with others about, I just want there to be two separate forums, one for entertaining morning readings about technological/entertainment/media/funny facts to start the day, and another new forum for serious political/religious/socio topics.

It would not be taking anything away from you.

All I really want is a place where I can talk with CyranoAH about aerospace, with MiniD about movies, with Curval about Clockwork Orange and other masterpieces, with miko2d about genetics, with Hangtime about RC technology, with bloom25 about computer technology, with Ripsnort about fitness, with straffo about european lifestyle, with eagl (who's gone now) about an interest on military aviation, etc, etc, without the constant interruption of people who want to impose their political agenda, pushing back any other subject.

Thats it.

And I want to hear Skuzzys/HiTech words agreeing with me, or telling me it cant be done, for x and y reason.

I like this comunity, I just dont like the way its going. IMO, it was better before.

PS: As of 4:20AM (coincidence I promise) 76% of the threads on the O'Club are about political/sociological/religious discussions. Wouldnt that be reason to add a new forum for these topics?

I dont get it. Apparently 76% of the threads in this forum is about war/politics/religion. Doesnt that tell you that YOU are in minority when you say that you dont want to talk about stuff like that?

I *promise* you that if you start a thread where you  talk with CyranoAH about aerospace or whatever, the persons wanting to talk politics and war will not dive into that thread and attempt to hijack it.

You say you want

Well, guess what, you've got that place right here. Its called the O'club. What exactly is it that bothers you so much when people talk about subjects you find not-so-interesting?

And I think its nice of you to say that you have no problem with me talking about stuff I find interesting...as long as I do it somewhere else. Because that is EXACTLY what you are saying here:

The O'club has a way of moderating itself. Topics that many people want to talk about tend to stay on top, topics that few people want to talk about tend to drift down to page 2. Your solution to this is to take all the "popular" topics and move them to another forum.

It solves the wrong problem, and will only cause people to lose interest in this BB. These things move in cycles. Sooner or later, people will get tired of bashing the French, or talking about Iraq, or talking about politics. Then they will start talking about something else. Right now everyone wants to talk about Iraq, wmd's, war, simply because it is on everybodys mind these days.

You should respect that. And as I said, what exactly is your problem anyway? No one is forcing you to read the posts you find uninteresting.

Yeah, the o'club has a way of moderating itself; threads that are NOT political or religious tend to die. Not because more people like those threads, but because peoeple who like those threads, post more.

How about this - a separate forum for threads that are NOT political/religious?
The O'club remains the way it is now, and another forum for threads that do not fit into the political/religious format of the o'club.
You dont have to read it if you dont want to. If you are more interested in arguing the virtues of x or y political philosphy, you'll have your own specialized place to do so, NOTHING WILL BE TAKEN AWAY FROM YOUR DAILY FLAME WAR.

I'd talk to CyranoAH and others there, and I wouldnt be interrupting You.

I dont see why you would disagree, only for the sake of disagreeing, and you'd have plenty of that if my wish is granted.

It's OK, Animal.

Common Sense and an Accountability/Responsibilty philosophy often bring out insecurity, feelings of inadequacy and outright hate in some people.

But you're still not getting any of my beer............
