People were merrily popping chutes online long before Quake (or Doom or Wolfenstein 3D) were glints in John Carmack's eyes.

Minus' "this soft is eating the ghost in my box" was a classic.

Anyway back to the subject if its a la7, niki,spit, lanc or p51 chute it dies for sure. If its a bish typh it dies. If its in front of my sight it dies. If its higher then 5k he lives, but if im heading back that way on the deck 5 min later then it might die. If its a scorepotatos name it dies for sure

Watched someone pop the chute at 10k+ last night. But thanks to this thread I knew that chute shooting was wrong and so flew away leaving him unmolested. I feel I'm a better man for it.

Since I have a tough time staying alive, I don't like giving the enemy a 2nd target to shoot at so I never bail out and just ride the flaming wreckage in.

I do admit that I actually took pity on a chute last night. I got jumped by a 25k P-51D and shot him down on the merge with a lead turn and watched him bail out as his tail less P-51 kind of fluttered by. Now being at 20k with in his chute, I could have shot him down but decided it would be funnier to have him hang in the sky for 15 minutes instead.

Ahhh...the famous 'BINGO' call, haven't seen many try to do this in AH so I haven't gotten the satisfaction of chasing one down lately. I do find that if you yell out 'BINGO' when you are chasing a runner, you can sucker him back into the fight 99% of the time.

Anybody who claims that chute popping is something new to AH obviously wasn't paying much attention in their previous online flying time.

It's been around since the very beginning.

I do it on occasion, for many different reasons. If I figure the guy in the chute could be giving intel. If it's somebody who did something that pissed me off during our dogfight. If I did something stupid that pissed me off during our dogfight. If I know it's somebody who's an annoying bastage in general.

Sometimes, just for the hell of it.

The absolute BEST reason to do it though is cuz you know there's probably some goob on the other end getting all worked up at the pure unchivalrous evilness of it all and you'll soon get to read their upset whining on the BBS.

make 'em bail out way up high.. the higher the better...
cruise the area picking off any cons.. then just before the chute touches down.. that's when you blast them with mg's.

The only reason I shoot chutes is because I know it really pisses the other guy off.

Where's the fun in it if the bailer doesn't care?

So, in effect, this thread has encouraged me to shoot chutes more than ever.
