What planes to model....
« Reply #15 on: September 01, 1999, 06:48:00 AM »
Now, I know it's mostly a USA market when it comes to a game like this, based in the US State of Texas, so I know my choice has an snowball's chance in Hell, but here goes:

RUSSIAN FRONT:

1. Where over 60% of the LW was destroyed.
2. Where the Germans lost the initiative.
3. Where the Germans lost the war.

Of course, I fully understand the lack of popularity for the Russian Front in the USA, especially when considering the USA's not inconsiderable efforts in Europe, coupled with their dominant role in the PTO.  Suffice to say I did it on principle

You are all full of self-promoting hot air :-P

At least DEFT's suggestion was not biased towards his personal pet-AC.

The reason this topic is beat to death is because very few of us can get over our own little predjudices. Personnaly if it as realistic as possible, balanced, and fun to fly I don't care what they model.

Leonid, Juzz, YES!!!

Russian front would be perfect for WB.

Planes taking off and killing vehicles and troops rolling onto their airfield.

Fighters taking off and finding combat within 5 minutes and finding the front within 15 minutes.

Nearly all bombers operating at very low level, with fighters being sucked down to help.

Aircraft from Germany, USSR, UK, USA, Italy.

Not a game - this is what the Russian front was like.  We can have our Quakebirds and our Historical Accuracy at the same time!

Also there is not so much of the terror bombing seen in the European Front.  I can get excited about blowing up tanks, but not about bombing women and children.

Thanks val

Maybe 'theatres' is to big.

This isn't about 'wheres my plane', its
about getting an event right.  Running a
historically accurate smidgeon of WWII with
all the correct a/c and no substitutions.

The mix of aircraft in warbirds, scoring
methods, and layout lead to air combat that
is anything but historically accurate. This
also includes historically inaccurate
numerical porportions.  A prime example
is 'jet day' (last day of rps) in which you
see an endless parade of 262's.

I'm not lookin for a sim that puts me in my
pet ride.  I'm lookin for one that puts me
'there'.  Historical matchups, complete plane
choices for the event depicted, and proper
loadout/armament selections.

course thats just me.

but, in the off chance that PYRO is scanning

Sorry gatt... was a little wound up at work at the moment.  No offense.

I'd love the chance to remove you from your fine Italian-built plane.  hehehee... more like, I'd love to parachute from a USAAF plane for the 30,000th time.  I'm quite good at dying the glorious death.

No matter what they start with, end with, or leave out, this looks like it's going to be some fun!

Since we clearly can't please everybody, let's make the choice that will probably p*ss off the greatest number of people at once and go with the CBI. :P

CBI, YESSS!!!!!!!!!

P-40B(C) and E with Chinese Markings (And Disneys Flying Tiger on the Side) Sand and Spinach Coloring.  NO FUNKY COLORED NOSE CONES!!!!!.

Ki-43.

Claude.

Betty.

Dinah? Japanese four engine bomber?

Brewster Buffalo (RAAF I Think)

Hurricane (British)

There was also a twin engine Japanese fighter that the AVG Thought was a fast bomber, but I don't remember the designation off the top of my head.

C-47.

B-25 (As Targets for the IJA.)

I believe they shot up a couple B-17s also on the ground.

Mt. Everest, the Burma Road, and Salween River (Bridges to bomb, canyons to fly through.)

Rangoon, Kwelin, Mingladon.

IJA No Radar, No Radios.

Brits, Aussies, and Yanks (AVG) Radios and Radar.

The Chinese had some Curtiss Byplanes (I don't remember their designation either, and some old slow RUssian Bombers)

And the best of all, you wouldn't need strategy, because there really wasn't any.

(I know it doesn't sound fun to the rest of you, but I want the P-40.)

After all, p40's in china were the first
US aircraft to fire rockets in combat.

Umm, i dont think so.  Australian, New Zealanders, Dutch, Free French, and British forces were also there in the Pacific.

I would like to see a Mediterean or Pacific/Burma theatre concentration if I had to pick one.

I've gotta post my two cents backing Windle. I can't believe you guys are starting a sim without a F4u or an F6F...

Although I could have fun in a CBI scenario...

And I keep finding references in my reading  to a P39-N, a stripped-down, faster, shorter legged variant. Any other interested parties?
