But the Berlin blockade has no relevance to the situation in Iraq. There were no germans helping the russians, quite the opposite. Right after the war there was still resistance, but they soon realized it was the American way of life, or the russian way of life. As you can see by the wall that was built, they didn't like the russian way of life.

I think there is a parallel between post war Europe and post war Iraq. The Berlin Airlift was a heroic effort to ensure the freedom of West Germany if not all of Western Europe. Much the same is happening now in the Middle East.


You do realize that that wall you mentioned divided Germany and not just Germany from the USSR right? And it was built by the USSR, not the US.

But the blockade has no relevance. That is more tied to the cold war.

It did more than that. It was a physical manifestation of incompatible ideologies and was a constant reminder to those of freedom loving nations of the tyranny of communism.

Much like the tyranny found in many Islamic states.

Germany was divided, as was Berlin.

Berlin had a wall, the two Germanys were separated not by a wall but a series of well guarded fences, lined with mines and retarded dogs.

But, again, the blockade has no relevance to the situation in Iraq. It's relevance is to the start of the cold war. The berlin airlift won the hearts of the germans. Stalin tried to starve them to death. From then on there were very few(if any) german insurgents against the americans, it was against the russians. You are getting close to comparing the insurgents against the russians to the situation in Iraq. Which has no relevance either.
