I'm really surprised Preon hasn't made his way to this thread yet......

Anyway, some favorite composers:

Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, Crimson Tide, The Rock)

Basil Poledouris (Conan the Barbarian, Hunt for Red October)

Jerry Goldsmith (Star Trek, The Thirteenth Warrior, Rudy)

Danny Elfman (Beetlejuice, Sleepy Hollow, Edward Scissorhands, The Simpsons Theme Song)

John Williams (Schindler's List)

Howard Shore gets an honorable mention for the LOTR films, I'll be interested to see what he comes up with in future films.

Dude, for composers you're missing James Horner!  Aliens, Wrath of Khan, etc.

Wrath of Khan has the best soundtrack out of all the ST films IMO.

I forgot that one too.  I've never seen anybody listen to "big rock candy mountain" and not smile.

Trainspotting.  Gotta give it up for a soundtrack that gets everyone to like Iggy Pop (Lust For Life).

Doesn't Brian Eno have a song in Trainspotting?

[edit]: Ah yes, "Deep Blue Day."  Talk about chill music... [/edit]
