Woefully disappointed :(

Spare me the flames as I am not out to rub anyone wrong.  I'm just telling you how it is from this computer.  Last night, I spent 5 hours playing.  Loved it.  Tonight, I've played for 30 minutes and its a freaking slideshow.

Forget my configuration, obviously its inferior to what others have.  Its just a damn shame that what ran so nicely for months is now just horrible.  Sure, I can upgrade from this K62-400 & Voodoo3 3000 into a nice 900 or Gighertz system....but that's a lot of dough just to keep up to play the game.

I got 2 to 3 FPS anywhere near the ships.  I rattled away at incoming aircraft in the PT boat, only to watch them slide by, v-e-r-y--s-l-o-w-l-y...not a hit.  Launching from the carrier was the same deal.

Like I said, this isn't sour grapes..Im sure 1.05 works great on most of the systems out there.  But for me, what worked well yesterday is unplayable today.  I'll probably hang it up until I have a faster system that can digest all the intense graphics the carriers/ships/aaa all give.

Sorry, that's how she plays from my console.

Catch y'all later.

Paul

You can't say forget your configuration.  If you're having a problem we need to know your configuration and what conditions it's happening in.  Is it in general, is it in heavy traffic, a certain plane, were you not using the hi-res patch before, etc.  FWIW, HT and I both use PII 333's with Voodoo IIs.  We don't use high-end machines to develop jaw-dropping stuff that only a few other people can appreciate or use.  If you're having a problem, we need to know the specifics of it because what you're describing for the system you have does not sound right.  If you could frame it according to what you had before under in various conditions compared to now would help too.

Guys, remember this happened in 1.03 at first as well.  TRUST ME, HTC will improve the situation very quickly.  I wouldn't be surprised if there is a patch available tommorow, and maybe even a second by the weekend.

LePaul,

I've only got a K62-350, Voodoo2 sli, 64mb RAM, I spent 2 hours flying 1.05, and I must say, it works fine for me, i get about 20fps on average, not great but it works. I suggest you have a look and see where you can improve your system.  I found that even something small like disabling the modem icon in the system tray makes a huge difference.  I do plan to upgrade my machine but only cause I want to, not because i have to.

Don't give up on it yet!  Your machine sounds superior to mine.

BTW: HTC, Great job on 1.05, cant wait for the next scenario!

Regards,

Gremlin

Pyro, I've got the same opinion as LePaul. Anywhere else, frame-rates are just fine if a little slow. But that's my machine. If I get anywhere around a fleet my system either goes into slideshow mode or locks up. The fleet simply chews up too much horsepower for low-end systems. As a reference, here's a batch of FR-markers from 1.04P5 with the hi-rez patch and 1.05:

In B-17, on runway (small field): 12
B-17 in flight: 16
Bf-109G10 in flight: 17-19
Yak-9U on runway (small field): 11
Yak-9U in flight near large field: 8 (12 w/o hi-rez)
Fw-190A5 in flight near fleet: 2
F6F on carrier deck: 4
Pt-boat near fleet: 3
Fw-190 in flight over Luzon: 22
Yak-9U in flight over Stalingrad: 21
Panzer driving around: 17 (27 w/o hi-rez)

As you can see, even though I have a 3 year-old system I can play fine. But the ships simply chew up too much computing power. The hi-rez patch has some benefits for flying, but vehicles suffer quite a bit. System specs are below:

P-200 MMX
512k cache
32 megs SDRAM
3.2 gig HDD
Creative Blaster Banshee, 16 megs SDRAM onboard
Dx 6.1
Win 95 (4.00.950B)

flak your system is below the minimum machine spec listen on the aces high webpage, it doesnt have to and should not be supported, IMO. It is a 4 year old machine technology wise, afterall, predating WB 2 even i believe?

One more thing:

What really helped for me was when bloom25 posted some information on better frame rates. That was many months ago...however, the information is still accessible at:

HTC >>> FAQ's >>> How can I improve my framerates?

Hope this will help.

OK I have same issues near fleets or large furballs now (i.e framing issues)

PIII 550, 192 megs of ram, Asus MB, AGP Diamond Viper 770 Ultra, 56k modem

I normally run in the 50's for FPS and RARELY drop to 40's or 30's but today I was framing quite abit near fleets or large furballs, some of this is due to the large traffic load I am sure, as my net status showed numerous spikes.  I also got some nasty close in warps also caused by the server/connection load I suspect.

The new version is a great effort and I applaud all at HTC for the effort and I am sure some patches will be out soon, but unfortunately as we all know it MUST BE tested under LOAD and HTC has NO other way to do it other than putting it up and getting some DECENT and FAIR feedback WITHOUT all the carping

Zig I am well aware of that. Have been for some time. Looking at getting a new system if the tax return is fairly healthy. Until then I'm stuck with this rust bucket. If you believe my system shouldn't be supported, that's your opinion. But I can't afford to blow $1,400 on a new comp, and parts around here are far from cheap. I am simply saying that many people are having FR problems with 1.05 around ships. From low-end systems to P3's. I can fight, and kill, with my usual frame rates. But 3-7 FPS around ships on my end tells me there's something wrong. This means guys running faster comps aren't getting much better.

Look at the difference in hardware and software. Gatt is getting dumped and he's got a P3. Other guys have P3's, GeForce 2 cards, and are getting the same FR I am! It'll get fixed, of that there's no question.

I posted a bug list here:

Bugs I've seen.

Hey guys, thanks for not flaming

Here is my system:

AMD K62-400 Mhz
128 mb ram
20 gb ide hdd
awe64 sound
3dfx voodoo3 3000 agp
directx 8
windows 98 + latest updates
MSIE 5.5 + all updates

With 1.05, if I go near a vessel, FPS goes down to 2-3.  If i aim for the sky, I go back to 17 to 22.

Im running the game in 1024 x 768 mode.  Ive gained back some FPS as I was 1280 x 1024.

I've been told the AMD K6 is weak in the FPU department, and suffer similar slow rates in 1.04 with smoke and such.  The smoke is annoying, yet livable for me.

I'll get more data for you in regards to FPS in other areas.  So far, in 1.05, Im having a hard time with the carriers all around, i seem to vanish in them when taking off/landing from outside views.

Also, the computer has a really tough time with the pointer if I am in the ship hangar and there is action going on.

I gave up on the OnLine/Main Arena and played on H2H for a few hours.  I just couldnt give up so easily after dying to play this game all day      If its just little ole me in the boat/plane, things arent so bad.  But add in a lot of people, effects, ships or aaa and again, the low frame rates resume.

I've turned clutter off and even shortened the horizon.  Any other enhancements you can suggest?

Paul

Bummer that you are having problems.  I'm running a PIII 500 with VoodooIII, and I have no problems at all.  Perhaps you should go back and reset your settings, go to a lower resolution?  Or perhaps your conn was crappy?

I've never seen 176 people in the Main Arena.  Im sure that was part of the lag/ frame rate but not all of it.  I have a cable modem here and pings have been very slow tonight.  Much much slower than usual...but again, in H2H mode, anything with the boats and ack clobbers me

Add me to the list of people with frame rate problems

ASUS mb
celeron II 566
Geforce 1 32mb
128mb 133mhz ram
13 gig hd
running @ 1280 resolution, 16 bit colour

I get 7-9 fps near carriers and around half what I used to everywhere else.

Always had hi res patch installed.

build ya a box from scratch.

I've got a few frame rate issues, though not as bad as others.  In the real heavy action I'll drop under 10.  In 1.04 with everything at a base that could be smoking, smoking, I'd get 2-3fps.  driving a ptboat through all the ack of the fleet and a score of friendly and enemy pt boats around i was getting 7-8.

I do get weird static-popping accompanied by corresponding joystick spikes (press a key, like talking on the radio, stick spikes) that are strong enough to disengage the autopilot.  If I'm really on a roll, typing several messages quickly, I can trigger the anti-stick stirring code.

AMD K6-2 400 on a Via 503+ board (I know this board has a few issues)
Diamond Viper 770ultra
