Like cockpit.

AH lacks freedom of expression. The guidelines are set by the random decisions of the moderators, who sometimes run high on a powertrip and the result is similar.

So untill automatic filtering and random mutings are removed from MA you won't see me as a customer.

Stepping away from the "I quit" and "don't let the door hit ya in the arse" path this thread has taken, I have an issue with the following:

It actualy stands for ship high in transit. When dung used to be sold as fertilizer there had been a few fire/explosion on board ships do to the gass build up when enclosed in a hold. To vent the gass it was needed to put all the dung containers on top.

HiTech

Need more research here.

The story hitech refers to relates that when manure was transported long distances in wooden boats enough water would get into the cargo hold to wet the manure bales.  Methane gas would be produced and when someone went into the hold with a lantern the ship would blow up.  The solution was mark these bales of manure “ship high in transit” so the bales would be loaded into a higher, well-ventilated section of the cargo hold.  From this we get the acronym “****.”

Taken overall the story is bull ****.

By changing one word in the story you have a recognizable, albeit poor, joke.  “What do you call manure piled high on a boat?  **** high in transit.”

That is Awsome S#!T :D

WTG Hitech!!!!

Alternatively, one could always open a dictionary.  A dictionary is a big scary book with lots of words and stuff.

A more convincing etymology of the word "****" is that the word “****” originated in Old English as scite or ****e (Sierra Hotel India Tango Echo), from *scitan (to defecate), where sc- is pronounced sh-.  The past participle of ****e (Sierra Hotel India Tango Echo) is ****ten (Sierra Hotel India Tango Tango Echo November) The word “****” may also be traced to the proto-Germanic root *skit-, from which German scheissen, Dutch schijten, Swedish skita, and Danish skide are derived.  *Skit- originates from the Indo-European root *skei-, meaning split, divide, or separate.

An acronym, heh.  Should Have Investigated Thoroughly.

A "Ship High In Transit" is a 20k+ P-51D or 190D-9.  I look up at a high Pony or Dora and think "oh ****."

That is all, carry on.  I believe Rude was concerned about Siaf's arse?  Discuss.

I don't even play much anymore simply because of the constant ranting and insulting that goes on in the game. Sure you can squelch channel one but you can't squelch your country channel. Also people swearing on vox bothers me enormously because I have young children in my home and don't want them hearing stuff like that if I can help it.

When I do play my 9 year old daughter likes to watch. She reads the text buffer faster than I do. She always catches it when someone masks a swear word. Anymore I try to play when she is either not home or in bed for the night.

I for one am in favor of more moderation of the constant insulting and masking of swear words so that I can once again enjoy playing AH.
Corkyjr on country jumping:
In the end you should be thankful for those players like us who switch to try and help keep things even because our willingness to do so, helps a more selfish, I want it my way player, get to fly his latewar uber ride.

Actually elfie... those are excellent points. It's because you pointed this out to me(it's ok if ya don't remember, but trust me, you did) that I am trying to improve my behavior as far as language.  Hey, when one has as much room for improvement as me, one can only get better!

Arguing and whining is one thing, but I really don't want someone else's 9 year old daughter to be exposed to such stuff because of me.  I'm sorry for the times(I  know there had to be more than 1) that I did this to you.

Try to focus when you read, mars.  It seems that you are deliberately misinterpreting my post.

If I had to explain every nuance of every sentence I wrote on this BBS to every illiterate fool that could not understand it I would probably only have around 140 posts in three years.

Again, some folks are just high maintenence.

I'll let a few syllables fly when I smash my finger, but I don't do it in the supermarket, in court, in a casual friend's car, etc. etc.

In most cultures, there is a high (formal) language and a low (informal) language. Profanity is a very low language (perhaps a notch above body noises) and reflects disrespect when used with people in a less than casual situation.
It would be akin to meeting you for the first time and discussing my bowel habits or love life with you. You wouldn't want to hear it. And you know, the majority of people in a public gather place don't want to hear potty mouths. Get a thesaurus, and stop trying to be cute.
Its not censorship or a restriciton of ideas. Ideas can be adequately expressed (even colorfuly) without aluding to the bathroom or intimate relations. It is demanding you respect others even though somehow you feel "above" them.

Ecke is a respected person, and it's a pleasure to share the airways with him.I've never seen or heard him say anything that even closley hinted of intentional vulgarity.
The Mods have a tough job,and surely they will make people unhappy with what they have to do.I have been warned for language, and I had it coming.Getting bested in any contest, can bring the worst out of people.
As far as the young ones seeing and hearing the blasphemes,I heard a young one using language that would make a mule skinner blush.
Speaking of blushing,I see things on Ch 1,that make me wonder if some of the depraved halfwits shouldn't be institutionalized.
Maybe HT ought to utilize a system where the mod could fine the offender.Say like take perks away. That would slow down the cussing, espicially amongst the people that worry about such things.Notice I didn't say point -----
Thats my nickels worth.

I don't want to get on a personal level and have no doubt what you say about Ecke's character. I hope you take this and what was posted before as a general contention.  Everyone makes mistakes and occaisionaly says the wrong thing in the wrong setting. But if it happens - what do you do? If you're in a gathering and say something that some find offensive, do you argue the point, or do you apologize for inadvertantly offending them, move on realizing others may have different customs than you? I mean thats really the the issue - not what was said, but the determination to say it again after it was pointed out to be offensive. No matter what anyone's belief of the acceptable use of salty language, I think we can all agree the MA was not set up to debate that. And, to misuse it as such is an encroachment on the others there - intentional or not.

I don't think there is an argument on if mods are needed.  They are. I have a 4 year old doughter that likes to fly the plane once in a while and she is in the room and can hear VOX (when its working :D ) most of the time.  My argument is that the current mod 'setup' does not work.  The guy got mutied for saing the S word but 100 times worse things get through.

I have a short film from last night (HT or Scuzzy if you want it I can email it to you).  I missed the first 5 mins of the cursing but the 5 mins I got will give you an  idea of what was happening.  I hope vox is also recorded cause there was a lot going on there too.

The obvious answer to this problem is simple.  Give Ecke moderator powers.  Then he can right all the wrongs that he has seen happen in the past.  I am sure that with Ecke as a moderator, channel 1 will be 150% better controlled.
