Thanks HTC! Night made no sense to me with people increasing contrast/brightness, lack of nightfighters, and icons made it a joke anyway.

Excellent work! :D

Manipulating your gamma settings too far from baseline can shorten the life of your monitor by the way.

Just the fact that night's effects are so easily manipulated by the players is reason enough to remove it from play until a more robust implementation that precludes user manipulation and more closely resembles the actual real life conditions can be programmed, including the modelling of the various night specific ground and air equipment that made night fighting what it really was in WW2 (searchlights, specially equipped aircraft etc.). Night fighting was not a bunch of daylight aircraft pork and augering into field strats with little fear of interception or air to air retribution...

I do like the night. and I never ONCE said that I manipulated my cards settings.
Fact of the matter is I have .. Though VERY slight. just enough so that night isnt BLACK. I only do this cause my monitor aint the newest iin the world and its brightness is already on the way out. BTW I have it adjusted for everything not just this game and I dont change the settings with the rising and setting of the sun within the game
the settings I set Probably end up being what night is intended to look like in the game. that is dark enough to seem like night but not so dark you cant see anything.
I say. leave the day and night. it adds to the game
And I seem to remember the Brits used to do night raids quite a bit during the war.
searchlights were only maginaly effective

So, do away with anything that doesn't "resemble the actual real life conditions" of WWII?  LOL, indeed.

LOL if we did that we wouldnt have a game.
Wonder how many pilots flew through blackous intentionally.
Thing is here if you have a general idea where you are in the air you can ride out a blackout in flight and still remain in complete control of the aircraft

Would seem to me that when one blacks out it takes several moments to recover and get ones bearings UNLIKE here
Not to mention you wouldnt be steering your plane while blacked out cause.. well your blacked out.
But wait maybe there is some merit here.
seems to me I remember spits had rear view mirrors.
We dont have that here so maybe we can do away with the dwee err I mean spitfires.
Flights to find a fight often took 8 hours or more. guess we need to space out the airfeilds more cause I never heard oif an instance where an enemy and allied airfeild were so close you could get at each other with a mere 5 min flight.

oh and in real life you couldnt ZOOM your view in on a target either
I could go on and on and on

The real issue here, is the same issue at the core of any simulation. The issue is realism vs. playability. HTC has demonstrated that it has a firm grasp on this concept. There is a point of diminishing returns when attempting to add more realism to a gaming environment when that realism entails a disproportionate decrease in playability. The night issue is just an example of realism intruding at the detriment of playability.

The fact that there was much more to night fighting during WW2 than a dark sky clearly enunciates the salient point that what we had was actually just day fighting in the dark! This is not even vaguely close to what really occurred during WW2. So, not only was the realism costing too much in terms of playability, it wasn't even really realistic at all, it was quasi-realistic. HTC's decision to just leave it at dusk/dawn was a good call when viewed in the context of realism vs. playability.

Nor did you have the limited peripheral vision that we have here in default view. The "zoom" we have is actually variable peripheral vision. In the default view, the aircraft are artificially reduced in size in order to scale correctly with the angle of vision allowed.

There are some REAL OLD threads on this that explain it in detail.

In short, the default visual cues are in no way representative of RL. Which is also the reason why HT put in icons.

What was bad was that it seemed to inordinantly fall during US Prime Time and particularly during our Wed. squad nights.

It got to be far more than an irritant.

It sure was, especially when it hit at prime-time and you just had a bad day at work. You log on to wupp someone's virtual arse only to find the gloomy darkness ominously encroaching. Chagrined you are forced to log-off or go afk and kick your dog instead ;)
