and rest in peace.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Update.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/West/04/22/coffin.photo.ap/index.html

----------------

A cargo worker whose photograph of flag-draped coffins bearing the remains of U.S. soldiers was published on a newspaper's front page was fired by the military contractor that employed her.

Under a policy adopted in 1991, the Pentagon bars news organizations from photographing caskets being returned to the United States, saying publication of such photos would be insensitive to bereaved families.
------------------

If what I heard is right, this policy was created moments before the 1st Gulf War. It went largely ignored during the Clinton administration. On the eve of Gulf War part deux a stern reminder of this policy was issued by the Pentagon.

Their reason was primarily about the invasion of privacy in showing these caskets. I don't know about you guys, but I didn't recognize any of the folks in those caskets. Perhaps you did?

Wayyyy off base there Nash.  This is a thread to remember the fallen, not debate politics.

Show some respect please, start a new thread if you want to debate.

You honestly cant be surprised.  Im sure the thread was intended exactly as Nash used it...

If you can stomach the exploitation of dead soldiers for political gain, then more power to you.  Im sure Teddy will drink to that.

It doesn't matter what the intent of the original poster was...

It was a pic of dead soldiers in coffins.

It obviously stirred up some feeling and hearty 's.

Why? cuz ya saw it in the first place.

If all went according to the forces that be.... Families of the dead would be notified quietly and all dignified-like and... whatever.

And you would have no idea.
