funny fishing story-
when I was about 13 my parents moved us from Oregon to Missouri. (I didn't much like it there, but met some good people).
anyway, these guys had gone catfishing over the weekend. and on monday where talking about it "I caught at 14lb cat this weekend. you got catfish in 'oar-ee-gone'?"
"well we have something like catfish. we call them bullhead. when you catch one you don't keep it or release it, you throw it on the bank to die before it gets a chance to breed"
"throw it on the bank?!, I caught a 14lb'er, you'd throw back a 14 lb'er"
"if I'm not in the ocean I prefer to fish for sturgeon. you gotta throw them back if they're under 3'. hell, you gotta throw 'm back if they're over 8' too (it's 6' now)"
"a 8' fish? in fresh water? bull****."
so the next day I take in this pic of my uncles kids. he's got 11 of them all sitting on this sturgeon. (it was a bit oversized at 12', the warden didn't have much sense of humor and he lost his boat, truck and fishing gear over it)
"now that is a fish" and they where fairly impressed. but mister 14lb'er says "ya but I bet you don't catch one that size everyday. I can always catch something for the frying pan"
"no", I had to admit "you don't see a 12 footer every day, but if you haven't caught anything good and just need a few for the pan, you can just dip your landing net in any river and get a couple to eat"
more calls of BS.
so the next day I brought in some pics of a smelt run on the sandy. pulling a gallon or so of smelt per dip, and me and my brothers carrying 5 gal buckets of fish to the truck. they couldn't believe it and I saw no real point in letting them know that they only run for about a couple days out of the year (I don't think they even run at all anymore).
