Your definition of a kill streak?
« on: October 05, 2000, 08:14:00 AM »
Reading about Citabria's great streak, reminded me of a question I've wanted to ask:

When counting a kill streak, how do you define the end of the streak?  Obviously a death is the end, but is a "bail", "ditch", and/or "capture"?

popeye

ps.  I always thought anything other than a safe landing at a friendly field ended my streak, but now I'm thinking that may not be "realistic".

well the key is that CIT did 86 kills with only rearm re-fuel on hotspots ..

I go BINGO-Nerves at about 5 kills (if i ever get them lately ..) and do a .ef

Yeah, the re-arm thing makes a streak pretty clear.  I was thinking of streaks interrupted by eating and sleeping.

Kill streak is the number of kills awarded without being killed or captured.  That simple.

If you ditch.. you survived.  That's why no kill is awarded.

If you crash and no kill is awarded.. well you were killed anyway.. streak over.

That is realistic.

Now.. slightly unrealistic is bailing.  If you were to bail over friendly territory.. you could fight another day thus the kill streak would survive.  Bailing over enemy territory is another matter.

For the sake of the game though.. kill streak ends with a bail too.

BTW.. Cit didn't ditch/bail/crash/disco during this entire streak so its a moot point for him.

My definition of a kill streak is if I actually shoot someone down.  A kill streak of one is good enough for me.  I have to land successfully, no ditch or bail, for me to consider it a good flight.

Any time I see my name spelled out in the radio buffer by the host  for three, four, or heck five times in one flight. That is a streak to me.
Landing back at home or bailing in friendly territory have not entered into my equation yet.

I see it as:

Sortie kill streak: this is the obvious one; the number of kills you are awarded in one sortie.

Shot down kill streak: the number of kills you score in succesive sorties, until you are downed. Deaths, bails, ditches captures count as shot down.

Swager checks his own personal dictionary!

"Hummm,.....!"  "Nope!  No kill streak defined here!""

I once got shot down 16 times in a row with out getting a kill!!  Ha!  There's a kill streak!!

Powell: Yes Rock.
Rock: Well that's where I got it, he's my son.
Powell: Really Rock, well I'd like to meet him.
Rock:  No ya wouldn't.

Kill streak = career of a real pilot.  If you die or are captured, the war is over for you.

I like Funked's.

If you live, and are not captured, the streak lives with you.

I didnt rearm at all

I just tracked my progress during the streak via the fighter k/d ratio.

my actual total including bomber kills was 93 before I got hit by an 88mm shell from a factory and crashed

I really hope HTC implements the current streak and best streak in which the pilot can track their progress for each virtual life they use.

to me this is exactly how a streak scoring system should operate...

bails or ditches in friendly territory would not end the streak but capture or death would obviously end the kill streak as the virtual pilot is out of the war or KIA.
Fester was my in game name until September 2013

Nice goin!!! Glad you a Bishop!!!

Most agree:

Death = end of streak (duh!)
Capture = end of streak.

Some disagree:

Ditch (no capture) = ?
Bail (no capture) = ?
