Getting Old
« on: June 26, 2004, 06:04:12 AM »
I had a grand total of three game crashes tonight, two of them were totally inexplicable, mid-flight game exits, one of them was some sort of cv gunnery bug that exits the game everytime i try to man a cv gun now.
Countless times, my frame rate dropped from a fairly smooth and decent 85fps to a dismal 6 or 7 for no apparent reason regardless of detail or video settings.
Small Screen freezes continue everytime someone drops an ord, keys up on mic, or I change views to look behind me.
You can't see ground vehicles you need to line up on until your nearly on top of them, you can't take enemy fuel down anymore? Fuel Burn rate is ridiculous, two sectors is all i get in a f4u with drop tank???
I am still getting see through squares on the mountains, even though I have reported this one on the AH2 Bugs repeatedly.
The game FREAKS OUT if I get an IM or a popup, and I don't mean a simple game exit type crash, i mean I have to reach down and cut my system off.
When i close or start the game, my computer sits there for almost a minute, sometimes longer doing absolutely nothing but 'freaking' and even after the game has supposedly closed completely my system runs like a **** for about three minutes.

And for god's sake don't tell me I need to upgrade my PC, I mean jesus I can edit and render NTSC quality video while listening to tunes on my mp3 player, but I can't run a fighter sim?
Don't ask me where I was during the beta testing either, I played the beta I reported bugs and problems.

Two years in development, several months of beta testing, literally thousands of feedback posts and reports and this is a releasable, final version?

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE(d) the game, I love the friends I have made through the game over the years, I have played this thing for three years now, formed and commanded one of the finest squads in the MA (oink). I am patiently awaiting fixes to a plethora of bugs, and I humbly accept changes to the game that i don't particularly like. I send my money in every month. But I do not enjoy it anywhere near as much as AH1, nor do i enjoy paying the same money for what i feel to be a work in progress. AH2 was not ready for release, IMO. The reaction of the community and the number of people that we have lost should stand to support this. Well over half my squad is gone, and a good many players in the MA who have held on are not happy with it either.
I am a loyal customer, I have reccomended this game to many friends, I pretty much play it on a daily basis, and as so many others, am completely sold on the concept, but I have to say that I do not agree with the release of this version, I do not like this version, it was not ready to be forced out yet. It is buggy to the point of being unpleasant.

The opinion of many members here in the BB is upgrade or get lost   Is this HTC's opinion as well?

I have no plans to cancel my account at the moment, as I hold to the hope that HTC's otherwise impeccable record of customer service will hold true and the game will improve with input and time, but it is something that is going to have happen pretty soon to keep me and many others on board.

Oh Yeah...
As far as this BB is concerned, just about every thread that gets started here becomes a festival of belligerence and affrontiveness and many of you seem to delight in making personal comments about the poster being a whiner or what have you. I'm pretty well sick of that attitude, and to those I would say to you to grow up and let people express an opinion without the cheap shots and obnoxious whiner rhetoric. This post is an expression of my opinions regarding AH2, if you don't like or agree with it, then that is fine and dandy, but if you can't come up with something relevant or perhaps non-confrontational, start your own "I'm a jerk" thread and have at each other... You guys don't seem to realize that we set the standards for this community by our posts, let people voice an opinion without personal remarks for once, you might be suprised at the improvement. I don't know about some of you, but I was taught to respect the opinions of others.

So why have IM programs running?  I close down everything before launching AH as it has long been said that other programs running in the background will cause problems.  Also, if you suffer from popups, that suggests you may need to check your system for spyware - clearing that out will then make a big difference to how the game runs.  As has been said elsewhere in these forums - many problems are with individual systems, and are nothing to do with the game.

Yes there are bugs and as fast as they are reported, HTC are bringing out patches to cure them; however, if more people had taken part in the Beta, a lot of the bugs which are showing up now might have been squashed earlier.

I personally think HTC have done a great job with AH2 and I enjoy playing it as much as I did AH1 and AW before that.  :)

Flossy, I think if you run IM it can open pop-up advertisements too.  I might be wrong though.

Maybe.  Like I said, I always close down IM programs before launching AH anyway and eliminate the risk of any popups.  If I want to keep any IM programs accessible while I am playing, they are open on a laptop beside me.  :)

CTD while in gunner positions has been tracked down to the squads folder.
Until HT fixes it delete any .bmp files in your squad folder.

Twitchy,

Nicely said.

Kids downloaded bunch of spyware last weekend.

I ran spy-bot/ adaware got rid of most.

Still had 28 bad files that Norton identified as as rick files.

Manually went in and deleted all of them.

Puter runs alot better.

Twichy.

Sounds like your system needs good spring cleaning with adaware, regcleaner and av. If you are anything like me, you have several smaller apps and sharware programs that you dont really need........dump them.

In the MOTD that was listed as "field gunner".
Who has anything in their squad folder yet?

I would bet that crap like spyware (active and poorly removed) and IM and all sorts of background processes are behind most of this. I have AH2 running on two different systems with none of these problems.

I might try loading it on a third, but I know that system is only marginally stable and needs a complete reformat.
