ok... so how many of you think that American doctors are more incompetent than the rest of the worlds?

How do you explain that socialized medicine doesn't hand out near the awards in dollars that we do?

It is the cost of lawsuits for whatever reason.   If you can't get those costs down you can't get healthcare costs down.

Add that word in caps above and I'd entirely agree.

Laz I agree it is one of the costs and changes need to be made, but you guys are trying to cast edwards as a scumbag because he was part of the system and that dog won't hunt.

Prove it. It was never overturned on appeal even though the award was reduced. The judicial system doesn't agree with you.

All you can do is libel a guy doing his job well. You've got nothing, as usual.

Seriously, don't excuse the morons on the jury in these cases.   Absurd tort judgements remain.......It's stupid.

Imagine the idiot who spilled hot coffee on her thighs suing because the coffee was hot.

Did I mention lawyers are scum?

Actually this is a bad example.  The plaintiff a 70 ish year old lady spilled the coffee on her lap due to an improperly secured lid and the coffee was hot enough to cause third degree burns to her outer vaginal labia.  The Mc Donalds employees were clearly at fault.  thats what happens when you employ people like....redtail

Exactly Storch. And, the corporation had been warned a number of times about the temperature (which was above foodservice common practice) and a "Flavor Consultant" apparently decided that flavor was more important than safety.

If I spill coffee on my lap I expect it to be hot, maybe even generate a first degree burn. I don't expect to have to get skin grafts as a result -- which is what she had to get.

That is why these settlements, even if abused, have some validity. Corporations all the time make decisions based on profits vs. safety/danger. Like it or not, your life and mine has a price tag attached to it, and these suits help keep that price tag higher. But, there should be adjustments to eliminate as much abuse as you can.
