Depending on the complexity of the mission objectives, you may need the senior command staff to fly desks for that - just to keep track of where the squadrons are.

And there's a risk of it breaking down into something like the MA. You'd have to enforce some kind of rule that squadrons had to launch together.

Arlo has also had a real woodie for a Spanish Civil War scenario, but can never get anyone to jump on the bandwagon. You think he's a cheerleader now... he'd sit up and wag his tail like a puppy if you put together a 24 hour Spanish Civil War event. :D

I don't know if the planeset is avaiilable though.

>>Great, a whole new group of people that know I'm an easy target and want to get a piece of me.

I downloaded it while I was playing City of Heroes last night<<

Quarters, my very first CO . Sure hope you guys stay arround AH. Really good to see names from over a decade ago.
Still remember climbing to 20k and flying over A land. Just as every Mouseketeer climbed to our alt, we bailed :)

Ya hada be there - it was half time :)

That's where I became a fan of the "cantankerous CM" style that you inspired.

RM had his version of it where he'd try to intimidate you with how much money he made an hour - and why you're wasting his precious time with silly minutia - it kinda worked.  :)

DD's version revolved around his ulcers, and how you *didn't* wanna be *that guy* that made him reach for the Maalox.

Tex was good too..... he's just plain intolerant of most anything, Hehe

Later... Culero was good at not taking any crap. He had a bit of the "Soloman Complex" where he'd pronounce judgements "ex-cathedra" and then follow up with "the great wall-O-text" (tm) in explaination of the verdict.

Just reminiscing......

Reminds me of when ->0d led us on a raid to Owl ( I think) and when we were done bombing and straffing, the whole squad just augered in.

Better than leading your flight of B-25s on a 45 minute flight up a blind canyon in the Morgan Stanleys and running out of alt at the same time you run out of speed.

I was actually pondering something around the invasion of Crete.

Either than or the attack on Singapore.

I prefer the early-war stuff - lower lethality and planes people don't fly every day.

But it sounds like this is all academic.

Naw... ponder it in spare time, outline it in spare time.

It took me and Dawn a *year* to get Ploesti off the ground (so to speak) a lot of it was just ramblings and chit-chat. That said, in the end it proved to be priceless. It generated H8 like had not been seen in a long time.

(Our sequel: Ploesti II "Oils well that ends well" got to beta test frame - then AW closed the doors. As I mentioned before - you have the 1st Scenario - but I have the dubious distinction of having the last AW one die mid-event.)

Back to my point: One thing about a big AH events team is that *if* you find you don't have the time to run it as a one man show,  they can pick up the ball, run it, and consult you on "game intent" questions.

In later AW - RM designed a few events, and "recruited" someone else to actually CM the thing.

But I understand it kinda sucks to design an event, and then barely get to watch it unfold.

Well, it ain't just that. I design events to be not just immersions in the combat situation of that time, but also to give the players a chance to learn new things.

So some of the things I'd put in may not make sense to someone else running the event. What may seem like a useless or even counterproductive target in mission 1 could be the thing that turns the tide by mission 5.

The tricky thing with early-war Pacific stuff is the huge differences between the Allied and Japanese planes. One has speed and armor and guns, the other has incedible turn and climb. It too often decays into a B&Z fest - which is authentic, but kind of unrewarding for the IJA side.

Surprise is the hardest effect to create in a scenario-but it can be done.

That's another reason I like early-war or Russian Front - much less reliance on radar. When you have to patrol in squadron strength and then use the radio to figure out who that bunch of dots ahead is - then it gets quite interesting.

Yep, I like having dedicated ATC's only with the radar, too.  Anything to raise the level of cooperation and reward it makes for a funner scenario for all.
