If my grandmother had raised him he would be clean shaven, well-scrubbed, neatly dressed, and would hold his hat in his hand in the presence of a lady.

Last time I heard it was the academy that gives academy awards, not the entire nation. Members of the academy, BTW, are notorious for making their votes without seeing the movies first(I got this information, firsthand, from a family friend who's a screenwriter and member of the 'academy')--one of the reasons the Oscars are hailed as the most politically-motived awards in Entertainment.

It's for this reason that movies like Titanic clean up at the Oscars and nobody's surprised. Of course, best screenplay went to Good Will Hunting that year because it was the breakout favorite. Not surprisingly, not all that many were surprised when that happened either.

Moore's success at the Oscars has little if anythnig to do with the quality of his work and everything to do with the competition's lack of publicity.

Stang. Read my whole post.
gunslinger.
I admit my exposure to him is limited to bowling(which I did not like for reasons I have already detailed here ad nasium) and F911 wich I aggree with but though had to a lesser extent some of the weaknesses that Columbine had.

Neither of those movies had anything in them that I would call socialist at all.
As I said. Gun control is not a socialist issue. Nor is curbing military aggression.

and all I'm saying is if you read some of his books and see some of his interviews he is all for socialism.  If a man makes a good movie but he is total scum I dont enjoy the movie at all.  Same thing goes w/ actors in a movie.

    That's not true.

At the end of F911, Moore, without mincing words, criticises our society's heirarchical nature as inherently oppressive towards the working class. He points out that the majority of our enlisted people came from such families, and had no choice but to put their lives on the line for the greedy ambitions of the upper class.

moore hates Americans.  Unless they are colored Americans and only if they stay away from him.

He is into class warfare and racial division.   He feels that all of America is stupid and that it is his duty as one of the elite to point that out.   He feels that blacks are unable to do anything without his help and should be grateful to him.

He is still angry at America because he got beatr up so much in school for being a fat, sloppy, nose picking little troll.

try googling for it. I've been trying to find a script or at least transcript of the movie but have not been able to find a full one.

The line is one of the very last in the movie--sort of to 'bring together' everything he'd spewed in the previous 114 minutes.

He's actually quoting (or paraphrasing cause I cant find the entire source) George Orwell's 1984

"it does not matter if the war is not real.  For when it is, victory is not possible.  The war is not meant to be won, but it is meant to be continuous.'"

"A hierarchical society is only possible on the basis of poverty and ignorance, this new version is the past and no different past can ever have existed. In principle the war effort is always planned to keep society on the brink of starvation. the war is waged by the ruling group against its own subjects and its object is not the victory over either Eurasia or east Asia but to keep the very structure of society in tact"

So we can consider that notion defeated.
