Soccer isn't gay.  It's a ladies sport, not a gay sport.

Only thing I have against American Football is that it takes 3 1/2 hours to play a sixty minute game, and 3/4 of that 60 minutes is reforming and huddling.  so 3 1/2 hours to watch 15 minutes of actual running, passing and tackling.

I'd rather just watch the highlights.

Its been a while :(

They fired the coaching staff though and are completly ditching their traditional run the ball offense to the "west coast" thing.

It will be interesting to see the huskers w/ a passing game.  Who knows.....maybe Tom Osborn will quit the senate and come back to make things better......we'll wait and see, should be an interesting season.

PS the Huskers ALLWAYS play better the lower they are ranked!

And dowding, read again, I say soccer makes baseball look like gladiators.  Thats how sissy soccer is.

actually the precurser to modern basketball and hockey (a highly similar field sport, adapted to ice in the early days of colonization) were girls sports. soccer and rugby were real mans sports. nfl football is just pussied up rugby...

I agree
I'd MUCH rather watch a group of women play soccer then men.
I think most of america would too.
In fact if you put these women in  skimpy bathing suits with large breasts constantly threatening to pop out.
You would have an instant hit.

Yes I played a lot of soccer growing up, several all star teams in fact.

Hey Dnil come here I got a little secret to tell ya, you were playing on a girls team thats why it seemed sissy to ya.

I played soccer for 15 years and when watched guys take hits that would make football players cringe. Ive seen guys walk off the field with someone elses tooth stuck in their head, and I once watched a team member of mine put his knee into someones face hard enough to brake their nose and knock them out. Now this was not done on purpose but Im just stating these occurences to demonstrate that soccer can be a ver physcially exhausting sport and very rough. I do agree that watching it on T.V. is not the most exciting thing to do and that when you get into the premier leauges its very much a game of finesse but ill bet money most of the guys on this BBS can run nearly 45 minutes non stop.

It cracks me up how ignorant America is about sport as played in other parts of the world, but stages a Baseball tournament known as the "World Series", in which just about the only non-American team is the Toronto Blue Jays.

Still, I watched the 1994 world cup football (soccer) fairly avidly, and the US did a pretty good job of hosting it - except for the fact that the grass on some pitches was not cut short enough, and the organisers not letting the managers near the sidelines to offer water to the players who were enduring Florida July heat.

Sport preference is highly subjective - just like AH gameplay preference. My preferences are these:
  • American football - no interest. Too much stoppage time, in between which there is a pile of men going for a funny shaped ball, until a man dressed as a humbug appears on the scene, blowing a whistle, waving his arms, and sometimes throwing a yellow handkerchief at the men in a bid to make them play nice.
  • Baseball - I do enjoy that, but only by going to the games, ie not TV. A great day (or evening) out. Beer, hot dog, peanuts... It's nothing like cricket, by the way.
  • Rugby Union - no real understanding of it, but it's fun to watch. Which is the one where they put the ball on the ground and kick it backwards (no stoppage) - Union or League? Whichever it is, that's the one I like.
  • Basketball - no interest
  • Hockey - no interest
  • Football (soccer) some interest, if a good game is on. Been to Wembley twice - 1988 Symod final (Reading beat Luton 4-1 :aok ); 1995 Premier Division playoff - Reading v. Bolton Wanderers - Reading lost, but I'm glad - they would have been unhappy in the Premier Div.)
  • Tennis - great game, very watchable - went to the US Open one year.
  • Cricket - nothing like baseball. Enjoyable if you understand it, which is probably why so many don't find it enjoyable. I voted for Freddie Flintoff as MOTM at the last Test at Edgbaston. Good showing by Ashley Giles, a close second. Very much hoping to go to the last Test at the Oval, starting August 19th.
Hey Dowding - are you a fan of Sheffield Wednesday? What happened to Chris Waddle? I used to love watching him take penalty kicks. :rofl;):D

I am a Sheff Wed fan - Chris Waddle hasn't played for us for 10 years and we are a long way from the Premiership. :)

Rugby League is the Rugby you're thinking of.
