Fly till ya die? or fly to live?

I agree with Nomde. Rather than pigeon-hole yourself or anyone into one style or another, what it all boils down to is timing. Once you reach a certain point the only thing that differentiates one fight, flight or campaign from another is timing. Timing more than any other single factor determines success or failure in any form of combat, whether it be for the fleeting instant of a snap-shot opportunity or a protracted campaign.

Whether it's the brief fraction of a second it takes to squeeze off a fatal burst of fire to the guaging of the ebb and flow of a pitched battle between two fields, timing is what determines outcomes. Timing is what you lose first when you are out of practice. Timing is more of an intuitive 'feel' than tactical dogma. Timing is that subtle voice in your head as you are engaged that says, "Ok, pull for lead....NOW!". An excellent sense of timing is only gained by alot of experience in a wide variety of situations and requires alot of anticipation of an enemy's likely next move and intentions. Timing is what sets two relatively equal pilots apart in terms of the cummulative end results they achieve. Timing is just that "Knowing' you are in the temporal 'G' spot for that critical manuever or shot. It's combat intuition in real-time motion.

Knowing the correct time to energy fight, angles fight, stay high, get low, keep fast, remain slow,  drag 'em down, pull 'em up, run like hell or take the shot is what determines success or failure. Do any of those things at the incorrect time and one of two possible outcomes will transpire.

1) You will Die.
2) You will fail to Kill.

Either of those two outcomes means you were unsuccessfull. No matter for which tactical doctrine you have the greatest affinity, everyone endeavors to kill and would rather not die. Timing is the critical factor that determines this, no matter how you choose to fly. It's so simple, yet so subtle, an easily understood concept that can never be totally perfected or mastered just by virtue of the infinitely dynamic nature of combat.

Timing is everything.

Yea, it's not about the score, it's about doing what a real pilot would do in your situation. Sure it takes you longer to get re-planed trying to ditch or land, but it's exciting in its own way to play as if it were real life.

The fact is you can not die in AH,so the real skill is trying to kill and get those kills back to base.

But I'm a noob so what do I know :)

exacRy.  That's how I flew Air Warrior.  That's how I fly AH.  And, when HTC decides to retire and sell-out to EA Games..forcing us all to move on, I'll fly that way in the next online sim, too.

Scientific research has proven that "gaming the game" is a sign of impotency & poor hygiene.

Always fly to live.  I try and always wing up with someone in my area because if you fly alone, you die alone.

Depends on my mood when I log in, or if I'm involved in a mission or winging....I've done both. But one thing constant: I was never concerned about my score.

I always fly to kill and blow up others and my intention is always to live. Unfortunately this seems to come in direct conflict with the extremely unreasonable and unfair desire of others to kill me. As a result I ... I ... don't make it back to base, uh am forced to land with 1 wing... uh make a hard landing due to a lack of fusilage...
uh uh uh I blow up due to bad workmanship at the factory ..... whatever it is  - it's not my fault!

On a more serious but no less insane note I have been known to continue to fly in combat without ammo. It's actually lot's of fun to be less than 200k behind someone that is frantically trying do get away and he has no idea that I am out of ammo and enjoying the torture.
