In my opinion PF kinda sucks...
It doesn't seem to be anything more than an addon, while the engine itself hasn't been through any considerable change.
For some reason the torpedo bombers weren't made flyable...  a PF theme and no flyable torpedo bombers.. wtf?

TBM, TBF, B5N.... goes on.

Also no japanese bombers available (at least not yet)

I do also wonder why the B25H isn't flyable, when it's quite similar to the J, but with a different kind of nose section.

Umm.. the game engine is much more than just graphics...

Fishu,

They will be flyable in the next few weeks, the problem was the cockpits would not fit on the CD's so they will be released as a patch.

The newest water for the 6xxx line of Nvidia cards looks real good.

I just wish I could run Perfect water with the weather related wave types (not the newest perfect water) without the damn ground reflections.

No way you would ever see those reflections unless you were in a stagnant pond.

It's a neat effect, but makes no sense.

As for the TBM/TBF - rumored to be flyable... not for certain. B5N is probably never. G4M is flyable in the first patch. B25H, maybe sometime down the road.

But whatever, I'll buy it anyway.

My CPU is up to the task (FX53-939), but my GPU is only a 9800-pro. I CANNOT run in perfect mode (not even an option), and excellent mode gives flat reflective water which is VERY hard to gauge altitude with.

Edbert, I have a 9800Pro and I can run perfect. CPU is A XP 2600+ (333Mhz FSB, 512KB L2cache).

In my conf.ini for FB/AEP I have set water=0 under the opengl settings.

This gets rid of the land reflections which really aren't realistic unless it was glass like water.

I'm corn-fused. Is Pacific Fighters in stores now? Sounds like some of you gents have it already. According to Gamestop it's not out until tomorrow.

Are you running the game in Directx? Try OpenGL, should work.

The newest water for the 6xxx line of Nvidia cards looks real good.

Avoid the 61.77 driver though. A friend of mine was testing various drivers for a FX 5950u and 6800 and (as confirmed in the PF read me) the 61.77 Forceware driver is crap. On the 5950 the Finland/Leningrad map wouldn't even load and the game would crash.

The 65.73 were best for the 5950 and the 66.81 worked good in PF but had graphic anomalies in CS:Source (white / black lines). The 62.20s worked well in both CS:Source and PF.

I agree with SW. Perfect water isn't all that. I think it makes a good screenshot but I hardly ever 'look at the water' while playing. Even the water 1 (reflective water) isn't that great. I set water to 0 except when I want a good screenshot.

Farcry and Lomac have good 'perfect water'.

FYI Farcry Patch 1.3 is out. (A long time for a patch but wth if you still have it installed it beats the hell out of their 1.2 patch; let's hope 1.3 doesn’t get 'recalled')

Okay guys, thanks for the tips, it DOES work but there's a catch. I went into conf.ini and searched for "water". Found an entry where water=1 and changed it to zero. Reloaded PF and it did nothing. I went and checked to see if I was running Direct-X and I was already in OpenGL. The catch is that there are two "water=x" entries in the conf.ini file. I changed the second entry and viola!

I hve no frame rate issues in my 9800-pro-128 at all. The water is beautiful. Thanks again!

Of course there are 2 :)

1 under

[Render_DirectX]

and the other under

[Render_OpenGL]

If you are running in OpenGL then you want to make your tweaks here.

Here's some FB/AEP settings for ATI cards...
