Take all movies with a pinch of salt, some are so thick in propergander and so far from the truth to make them amusing.

My vote would go towards two books.

Forgotten Soldier and As Far As My Feet Will Carry Me.

I woudln't call Kellys Heros a war movie, just a crappy movie.

I thought Thin Blue Line was an excercise is making a bad movie.  Just basically a confused peice of garbage, certainly not a a real war movie.

A lot of good movies listed though.  How about "The Green Berets"?  ;)

Saving Private Ryan gotta be one of the top five in any list.

Then I like
12 O'clock High
The Longest Day
To Hell and Back
BlackHawk Down

Those 5 in my opinion both tell good stories and maybe reflect in a small way the story of men in battle and what they experienced.

Other notables that come to mind would include

A Bridge to Far
Platoon (story is a little bizarre)
Band of Brothers (more a great mini-series, but better than most war movies)
Thirty Seconds over Tokyo
The Bridge at Remagen
Patton (of course)
Battleground
Battle of Britain
The Big Red One

Too many to list.

The Green Beret's? C'mon, get real. It was a bad John Wayne film...and I'm a John Wayne fan.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

I liked SPR, I wouldnt say its the best War Film ever though.

Band of Brothers was far superior to SPR in my oppinion, But to each his own.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

I didn't forget about Midway, I just didn't think it was anywhere near the top 5, and that is what this thread was about.   Thats also why I don't think Kellys Heros was worth anyone mentioning.
