Dug up this post because I bought Stalingrad and watched it last night, for the first time.

I must say, What a great film. Definatley on Par with Das Boot as my favorite War Film of all time. Gripping Action Scenes, And from what I've read, an accurate portrayal of the fighting in Stalingrad.

The Story of the 6 Main characters during the movie could have had more substance, In my oppinion. Also, during the Tank Assault scene I was somewhat dissapointed. It seemed like it was edited to make it seem larger than it really was. It felt lacking I guess, It needed a Huge Oooo-Ray! Human Wave assault.

And my biggest gripe in the whole film, the Lighting. In Bunkers and bombed out buildings, its not very bright, needed less light, with the characters only seen by small lanterns and candles. This was the biggest problem of the movie. And maybe should be skuzzyfied. :D
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Nefarious, I really liked it too (Stalingrad) but it looked to me as if they used Sven Hassel's book Stalingrad to base the film on.

Sven Hassel was a total fraud.

Huh, Ive read Plievers Novel and Beevor's Historical Account, never heard of Hassel.

I take it from your oppinion that I shouldnt bother though. They need to make a film based on Russ Schnieders "Siege".

I actually really enjoyed the Hassel books but found out later that the claims of them being "real" stories were nonsense.

I pissed my wife off when we were dating.  Told a good re-release was coming out "Das Boot the Directors Cut".   Made her sit in a theater for almost 4 hours. :lol

If Kelly's Heros qualifies, so does this one...(the movie, not Alan Alda's...)
