That is a tough call.

As we all get older more and more cancer touches our lives. Even within our AH community I know of at least 3 that are personally struggling with cancer. Having lost my best friend to cancer and others I can relate to the loss and its ugliness.

Looking at the text buffer I can see why Tbolt posted about it, yet Cobra did not obviously intend for people to take it the way they did.

Cancer should never be spoken of lightly or in a way that would allow others to interpret you are making light of it. Too many in our community have been scarred by it.

My two cents.

What you expect from kids TBolt, they haven't seen enough in life yet to have respect for others problems, I figure empathy only forms after enough personal turmoil....

Morpheus is just a spoilt brat, whose momma adores him and gives him too much money. He never mentioned his father, so I don't know if he knows who his father is. (?)

Allowing yourself to get pulled into any type of "discourse" with people like that is a complete waste of time.
If you are a Far Side fan, blah blah blah Ginger, blah blah blah...

My advice for you is in the future:

1.    .squelch (player name)
2.    send film to HiTech
3.    keep it off the bbs

I think you will find this strategy will waste less of your personal time and is infinitely less frustrating.

couple points to make here.

1.  This should never have gone to the bbs.  That in and of itself is uncalled for.  BECAUSE you took it to the bbs, don't expect anything to "happen" from this issue.

2.  Morp. was quite over the "line" with his comments.  NOTHING justifies what he said.  Was crude, crass, rude AND a violation of AH's TOS.  If you can't follow the rules, don't fly, or expect not to be allowed to fly.

My father has cancer, as does my sister.  I too think that it's a "touchy" subject.  I also can see how Mrs. Edwards is "fair game" due to her husband being in the "spotlight" recently.

I won't lie it does seem rather suspicious that right after the election this comes out.

Cobra, the Edwards' didnt want this information to come out before the election was done. The actual test to see if the lump in her breast was cancerous wasnt done until after the Kerry/Edwards team conceded defeat. Immediately after they conceded defeat Mrs Edwards was flown to a specialist and a biopsy was done and came back positive.

There was a thread on this in the O'Club with a link to a news article.

Bring me into, and hold me responsible for a conversation I never started and then try and tell me I'm making light of a topic such as cancer, and I'll tell you to go do the same thing Lute.

Understanding what a person is saying and agreeing with that person are two completely different issues.

I'm sorry if you can't understand that.

If you can't, you know what I'm going to tell you.

Well, re: posting this on the BBS...
I believe an issue like this can be discussed maturely between community members, and; thus far, it has been a civil conversation.  I appreciate Cobra stepping in with his explanation.  I consider the issue resolved, now.

I can only hope that we'll all be just a little more selective about comments we make on an open channel.

------

Morpheus,
I'm sorry to have accused you for the cancer discussion in my original post.  I'll give you this...you're right.  You're not responsible for the cancer comments on Ch. 200.

Your violation, however, was in responding with the "suck a d!ck" comment.  You're a repeat offender.  And, you deserve to be reprimanded & permanently squelched.

-------

I wonder if I can make a macro to /.squelch Morpheus...hmm.

No one should have to listen to it and it is unfair to use the "squelch them if you don't like it" answer. See above.

By saying, "if you don't like it, squelch it", you are saying that it is ok for a player to be abusive. Point of fact, it is not ok.

It is about choices. If a player chooses to be abusive, then that player better be ready to handle the ramifications of that choice.

Don't quite know what is so difficult for you to grasp here.  You do not say such things.  For any reason.  Period.  If you can't get your point accross w/o resorting to vulgarities then you need to just say nothign at all.

Shoot me something like what you said, and i'll send it to HT.  Keep it up, and you can then work your way up the list.  Mute, eject, ban.

Yep, your right Tbolt, I should have said something other than the suck it remark. And on the same token, you should have said something other than what you did.

Because you used poor judgment didnt give me the right to also use it.

Putting words in my mouth doesnt wash with me. I never let it slide before and wont in the future.

Because I may talk some smack on Chan 200 from time to time, you dont like it. Well, sorry for that not being my problem. And if your going to sit there and try and tell me I'm and the sole abuser on Chan 200. Well, get real.

The simple fact you, acting like a child mind you, brought this to the BB, furthers my point of you using poor judgment.

If you had any idea of how to handle this situation of yours, you would have sent a formal complaint to HTC and allowed them to handle it. Instead you wanted to be a hero. Like you wanted to be last night.

Aside from this debate, ch.200 is something you tune to on your own free will, and if you do not like a cetian conversation just turn it off.
Wait about 5 minutes then return to it. The people on channel 200 are like children in a candy store, including myself, they see one thing then rampage off for it, then another object catches their eye and they go after that. No conversation last very long. And this channel does include people from all parts of the world, different religions, cultures and ideas, you cant expect someone else to think exactly like you.
