Greatest car of all time?

But you're right about its performance. Even today it gives most "supercars" a run for their money, and even outperform many of them. IIRC the Cobra's short braking distance is particularly impressive.

The 427 was built from 65 to 67 on another note.  

GScholz, if I'm not mistaken, back then 1000 units (maybe 500) was needed to qualify a "production car" from a Race car derivitive.  I cannot find the source, and then again I may be wrong.  I feel about 80% sure though.

I've driven a train (and was allowed to take photos of it ) but I have never driven a London Routemaster bus. I would love to have a go in this.



Coolest thing about it is the pre-select epicyclic gearbox. The gear selector is just a short column mounted switch lever. You flick it into the gear you want, then hit the left pedal (which is not a clutch) to engage that gear. There is a fluid coupling like an automatic gearbox. If starting in 2nd gear (normal for buses) while accelerating away, you could flick into 3rd, but the change is not made until the driver hits the left pedal. Way cool!

For me the greatest car of all time was when 6 of my High School fraternity brothers took a road trip to SC for our convention.  A Buick Electra with a highway cruising speed of 120 all the way from Mobile to Myrtle Beach, SC.  Think we got there in 5 or 6 hours.

Bet that time does not include the 5-6 stops for gas.

The actual time was nine and a half hours, but we made up for it between gas stops.

That Buick did sustain 100 cruising speeds without effort.  With six people in it.  It was a good car.

Public HS did.  Not allowed in most private schools because of the trouble involved.   In public school, it was a way of survival.

Before that, I attended an authoritarian parochial school.  They didn't tolerate even dancing.  Though if I had stayed there, I would probably be better off in the long run.

I enjoyed 11th and 12th grade at public HS.  The reason I went there was to be in a fraternity  I was tired of being a wimp and not informed of the ways of the world.  I learned much from both schools, and don't regret a single thing I did there.  I was very happy at that time in my life.

The new one can't be a GT-40 (or a fake one!). It's too tall... 43" high. They're really nice, but for about $150,000 less, you can get a Viper which has only a fraction less performance. With the extra cash you can get a Hennesy Venom. I live near the airport they used to build them at... absolutely amazing. Saw one neck & neck @ 180mph vs a sportbike, and then it got on the gas & left the bike standing still. A few similar videos are floating around the net if you look for 'em.
