Seems the Army is primarily concerned with them erasing identification numbers and trying to cover it up more than the scrounging itself.

The moral of the story: If you don't have the equipment, refuse to do the mission.  You'll be safer, have less work on your hands, and won't have to face any consequences.

You mean repainting the bumper numbers to reflect the new unit?  Hardly anything sinister there.  Show me where they tried to profit personally off the action and then I'll support charges.

I guess it reads the same to all of us.
They just parked the vehicles in other camps when they were done with them. Increadable. Someone needs a capping.

Let's see...
Guys who refuse to carry out their transport mission... not prosecuted.
Guys who bust their tulips scrounging parts to carry out the same kind of mission... prosecuted, jailed, dishonorably discharged.

This happens frequently. Someone just wanted to be a hardass and pursue it. We lost a Humvee about a month into Desert Storm....we found it about a month later sitting 100 meters off the road. It was just a frame and an engine block.

Yeah I got to say I am pissed on that one.    What a slap in the face to every Joe who does their job and more.

The Army is not pissed that these guys took trucks to accomplish their mission.  In fact they would have gotten a big pat on the back for doing what was needed and the right thing.

Unfortunately, they screwed the pooch by covering it up and lying.  1000 attaboys do not add up to 1 Ahh ****!

You can bet the Army does not loose that many trucks without a reason.  When that unit S4 could not find his trucks and had no good reason to explain the disappearance, the turdball started rolling.  Had these reservist just said, "Hey we got the trucks, we needed them, and are still using them" this would have not have been worth mentioning except to say "Good Job on accomplishing the Mission."

As it was they lied and tried to cover it up.  That is a crime in the US Army.  Rightly so.
