ok, I'm desperate and signed up here just for this problem, which I hope someone can help with. 8 months ago my neighbor moved out and a Korean family moved in. They're really nice and willing to talk about their culture, and I exchange information about proper eating and my vegan lifestyle. But a few months ago they kept getting a bunch of pets which they keep out back, mostly dogs, and mostly young ones. Lisa, the young girl about my age (19), feeds them every day, but they have so many! At first I thought maybe they were running a shelter of some sort, because there were a lot of wounded dogs there and I guess they were nursing them back to health. I asked Lisa if I could help and maybe adopt one, but she said they're not for sale. THIS IS WHERE THE PROBLEM STARTS! They have a high fence but I can still see some of the dogs in there, and I kept careful track and found out some of the dogs who weren't hurt before became injured later on, some of them missing a leg, and one adorable pup I decided to call Spike lost his tail!
I asked Lisa about this and she said the reason they're not for sale is because they're a delicacy, but they butcher them as humanely as possible. I was shocked and I went to my room and sobbed horribly, then called the police. They never came, and I've called a few more times every few weeks but they still don't come. I tried talking to Lisa's father (he told me to call him Joe, of course that's not his Korean name), and I pleaded with him to stop because as a neighbor his eating of canines is offensive and I think illegal and doesn't fit in with American culture. He says that back home they eat dogs and they do it here properly and with care, just like Americans eat cows and kill them. He just won't listen, and I've tried everything. They're on vacation now, and I have to DO SOMETHING.
they're gonna be back tomorrow, since they left for the weekend, and I can't take care of the dogs and they'll know I took them and just get them back so I need to think of something really quick. I can't set them free because a lot of them need care to survive, you know? I don't know what to do, I feel like killing myself. can someone help me? Please, I'm scared and I can't take hearing those dogs crying out in pain from their yard anymore, HELP

Dont you have a humane Society, Local animal shelter, or ASPCA in your town you can call...?
You said you called the police... is the animal control part of the police Department....?
Call around to Vet clinics... every clinic that surrounds your area... and if you live in a small town, call all of the ones in a major metropoliton city... Call any Vet clinic and ask for advise, ask if they know who you can call, and then call them. Explain the situation...
And keep calling the police, even if you have to become a nusence and they get bothered by you, aventually they have to answer the call.... Keep calling anyone and everyone, dont give up yet because they still have a chance... and even if you dont get ahold of someone before they get back, keep calling the police... PLEASE dont give up...

This is a really tough situation. My advice:
Call/contact all of your friends/family members. See if any of them would mind taking in an animal for a while until you can find it a permanent home. Go over to their house, and take the animals one by one to their temporary homes. Make sure you make it look like they got loose. And be sure to go to a pet store and get plenty of food for the animals, so that they have something to eat.
And one more thing: HURRY!

I think you're making this up, but in the slim chance you're not - call animal cruelty or the police. Keep calling until they come.

As ridiculous as this sounds if you are telling the truth then you need to contact a higher level of local authorities, or an animal rights association like the ASPCA.

That's terrible!! Call every shelter and vet clinic you can find. Call animal control and the police until they can't stand you anymore. Call them, then if they don't come within 1/2 hour, call again. Keep doing that until they do something.

If they the dogs are being hurt it doesn't sound very "humane" to me. If this is indeed true, you have to respect their right to eat what they want, AS LONG AS IT IS WITHIN THE LAW. I know most cities have a limit on the number of dogs you can have before you have to have a permit. And if they are losing limbs then that may be a case of animal neglect. Do not take the dogs. Do however call the police, your local humane society, and anyone else you think may be able to help. And keep calling them until they do something.

ok hi I'm back. The cops don't want to come because they say it's not their problem because there's no law in our county against eating canines (WHY?!) and it doesn't fall into animal cruelty, and we have to respect the rights of those with diffent cultures. I told them this is BS, and I personally don't think they wanna do anything because my neighbor is wealthy and brought money into our town, which is small. My parents say if the police can't do anything then there's really nothing they can do either but I'm pissed off now and I'm gonna go over there tonight while they're stll away and it is dark and try to do somthing. oh PS there is no ASPCA in Nilsen where I live butmaybe i can call another town and they'd come here? but I'm gonna go do something about this TONIGHT anyway, no more of this dog killing, not in my town

Call your humane shelter, or else take the dogs and bring them there yourself. Tell them your situation and what these people are doing. Perhaps its in their culture, but it's still not right. Ask your friends and family for help getting them. If the police won't listen, the shelter will.

That's horrible! You should take them to a vet without the family knowing, and tell the family the vet or someone came for them, or make up some other excuse. but you cant leave those dogs there to die

i was in the air force like 8 years ago, and was stationed in seoul for a short time. the locals were friendly, and even dined with a few.
one thing i learned is dog is 2 things over there. it is a poor person's food, something that can be caught and eaten when hungry.
it can also be a delicasy in fine resturants, prepared in certain ways.
it is one very different culture, and really hard for us to understand. they tried a few times to sneak dog into my bowl, but i never let them knowingly feed me dog. there were a few stew type dishes i was suspect because the meat was tougher, but they promised it was beef.
that was a long time ago and i'd rather not think about it anymore, and now that i dont eat meat it is not a nice thought.
