Those get me nuts too. I usually give 'em a check 6 as they line up for a shot, assuming I see them soon enough.
Another one that I find annoying is when you engage a higher and faster fighter, eventually equalizing E states, only to have some tardling zoom in and blast the con before you can get a shot.
I had one donutpuss steal one from me when I was engaged with a pair of Typhoons while flying a 109G-2. I got the first one, and had shot the elevators off the second when this guy in a Niki dives down from high above and blasts the fluttering wreck. Even after I asked him to bear-off. He said "tough chit" and actually laughed!
That was a mistake. For the next hour he never got a clear shot at another fighter. A couple of my squadies and I made it our mission to steal every kill opportunity he might have and check 6 him to death any time he got close to an enemy.
I cannot understand why some people will not show the slightest courtesy to their fellow players. These guys might be surprised at how much a bit of courtesy will gain them.
My simple rule: Unless the other guy is clearly at a disadvantage, I just stand by and allow him to do his best. Should he be in immediate danger, then I'll intervene. Should he complain, simply leave him to his fate thereafter, and kill the enemy after the enemy has killed the complaining dweeb.
I like the theological correlation: You shall reap whatsoever you sow.
