It is called phimosis(or something like that)where naturally-occuring scar tissue around the area in question prevents mobility of the skin during--umm, excitement. This lack of mobility promotes infection and can lead to penile cancer later on down the road.

That being said, circumcision is never a bad idea. Even for people without the problem that I had, it is far more sanitary to not have foreskin. Somethings just don't have much use on our bodies. The appendix and the tailbone are two other examples.

And the doctor didn't make a dime off of it. He's an internist, and made the diagnosis during a standard physical, while the guy who performed the operation was a urologist. Both guys did the work as a professional favor.

Don't be so cynical Mechanic, the vast majority of doctors really aren't in it just for the money.

 What a pile of pseudomedicinal crap !
  Your personal condition is one thing but don't you try to lecture on general "healthyness" of the circumcision. You are just voicing the unsubstantiated OPINION of all circumcised surgens and nothing more than that. The next stop of your thought train is the approval of female circumcision.
Appendix, tailbone, foreskin may seem to be unnecessary appendages of your body, but in reality they are the constituent parts of your body. Attempting to get rid of parts of your body without the medical necessity for such an operation just can't be healthy. I hope you won't lecture your son that the forskin is a "useless" stretch of skin, nor instruct your daughter that the cesarean is "just another but easier way" of delivering a baby.
I understand that you are in pain right now, and you did what was right for you, but don't let your pain obscure your mind vision.
Healthy recovery to you   :aok but be prepared that it may take a little bit more time than you expect.

Not really, not unless something goes horribly wrong and causes deformity or impairment. Also, breast enhancement is voluntary.

OH REALLY.  SO You can ADD TOO but not take away.  What about the scaring.....people have unecesary surgerys all the time and it's not mutilation.

If the result is deformity or impairment it is. Damn, we just went over that.

Remember that part in "Resevior Dogs" when the dude cuts the cops ear off? That's mutilation.

Anybody know what the word is for genital mutilation of female babies ? Pharaonic circumcision.

who cares though.  Circumcision is not an uncommon nore unhealthy act.  I know we don't remove apendixes just because we might have problems later, but I know a few guys that had to have mid life circumcisions and they wouldnt wish that on their worst enemy.

either way though you win, I refuse to argue this subject any more.  ;)

I was circumsized yesterday. It was done on an order from my doctor, who said if I didn't, I'd be risking infection as well as an elevated potential for cancer later in life.

I opted for the local-only anesthetic, my reasoning being that this was an experience I didn't want to sleep through--an experience that few grown men ever go through. The reality of just how stupid that decision was hit me when the urologist stuck the needle in--into a region of my body that should never be touched by anything sharper than cotton underwear. I'm still amazed I didn't pass out.

If life is like a box of chocolates, then this one I'm chewing on now has a spikey metal thing as its center.

Whoa! Why am I now scrunching my knees together and grabbing my privates all the while saying "OUCH!"

Good thing the worst is over.
