The new G and J should be welcome additions for the  CT..

What time frame were they mostly active?

I hope the model in ANY engine problems, oil problems, etc, for these planes that might have existed.

The current P38 is far too uber (but that might change if they EVER fix the overblown flaps system)

My guess is that no one will fly the early 38s.  The P40 will probably be more fun in the CT.

Geez Krusty, just cause the Ki84 isn';t to your liking doesn't mean everything else is wrong :)

The L model in AH is the uber 38.  It's the end of the line 38 that had the dive flaps, boosted controls,  etc.  It did all the things it was supposed to.

That we get the earlier G and pre J-25, J model, means it won't be as uber to you.  No boosted controls, so the roll rate will be less.  No dive flaps, so compressabilty will be an issue if not used right.

BUT!  The real deal pilots were quite successful with the early 38s through the J15 well into the winter of 44-45.

I'd suggest some serious 38 research if you are going to make comments about all their troubles too.  Lots of that is pure 8th AF politics as they were not complaining in the Med, Pac, Aleutians etc.

The MTO 38 groups were more then happy to go to England and ferry down the 8th AF 38 hand me downs.  The 9th AF 38 groups had no objections to this either.

G models from 42 until mid 44.  Some of the MTO groups like the 1st, 82nd and 14th operated Gs alongside early Js until May/June 44.

Replacement pilots coming from the states were shocked to see G models when they'd been flying the lates Js during their stateside training.

The Early J models were late 43 through the winter of 44-45.  The 9th AF groups in particular used them in the ground attack role until the end of the war.

I've been reading the 370th FG history and it's amazing how many photos there are of OD and Gray J10s still going strong during the Bulge and afterwards.

Heh.  Welcome to the club of people who fly 202s and A6M2s and Hurri Is and P40Bs.  The new 38 is going to be a challenge, and those who learn to fly it well will be the best.

Guppy: My engine comments are related to the P38, NOT the ki84.

I want it to suffer as certain parts in early 38s freeze up or whatever. They (early 38s) had engine reliability problems that's for sure. I'd like to see it modeled :)

Soda: How's about 38Gs escorting B17s and Lancs vs 109G-2s/G6s and 190A5s?

You'd have to go with a North Africa, Tunisia slant to get the 38Gs vs the Luftwaffe going since they all went to North Africa for Operation Torch.

They did escort 17s during that time.  They ran into the 109s and the occasional 190
