no.  it isnt illegal.  i was framing the arguement for you.

besides, to win a civil claim a law need not be broken for a law to be applied.

but they sure as hell are responsible for this unhealthly increase ion portion sizes.

I was refering to this.

McDonalds can make portion sizes however large they want. Some people consider larger portions a better bargin. But they also know how much they are eating.

And going back to the "All you can eat" places. I have seen more fat people in those than almost anywhere. Whole fat families, kids fat, parents fat.....I mean real fat.

There is one down the road we go to now and then. It's a feeding frenzy.

Does anyone think it's okay for a fat person to blame the place  for  making them fat?

But do they really?

Do you think that most people who buy a Big Mac super size meal for lunch understand that they are getting close to 2,000 calories, which is the reccomended daily caloric allowance for the average male? Do they know the calories in those tempting two apple pies for a dollar - anoyther nice portion enlarged size value from MD...

I think it would be very intresting to see a full nutrition guide on every fast food wrapper, fries box and drink cup. We are legally required to have them on all other packaged foods. It would be very easy to do as most of the fast food menu items are standardized and share indivudual wrapping practically world wide and most sodas are very close calorically. I would love to see the effect of this on sales and menu offerings afyter some time.

Good point Grun, although I don't think fast food is considered to be packaged foods.

And yeah, I do think that most people know that a big mac has a ton of calories.... especially overweight people....they know what foods they should and shouldn't be eating, but it doesn't matter to them.

I think the lawsuit is just a money grab because McDonalds is so huge.....pardon the pun.

Also, can the plaintiff prove that ONLY because of Mcdonalds, they are fat? They didn't eat at any other restraunts? What do they eat at home? Got any proof?

The lawsuit is a complete joke. Can you at least see that?

I dont support this type of lawsuit at this time.

I think you underestimate the lack of information average people have about food and calories and especially the proportion oif daily calories that a huge portion super size meal gives them in one sitting.  In fact that would be a very good survey to conduct, ask people roiughly what portion of their daily caloric allowance a supersized big mac meal provides them.  Do you think that a majority of people would say some 80%?

Thats why I would support a law that required fast food nutrition labels.  This would inform the customer much more directly and any such development historically leads to product improvement by the manufacturer.

That and better food education at an early age should be high priorties to make americans healthier.  It shouyld pay off handsomly in the long run with lower medical costs which might be very good if the various social/medical assistance programs go away or even if we get socialied medcinie like europe.

Basically we as a culture need to change american eating patterns and getting huge food distributors like MD onboard with that would be a good start.

Interesting.

In Sweden, mothers tell this to their daughters:

"Its not the sausage that makes a you fat, its the sauce"

Television and computers, makes people fat (and in rare cases beer).
