It's all fun and games until someone rips a leg or two off.

Thanks Lars, I also have seen pics of the Suzuki M-50 same fuel injected 800cc as the C50
just a slight style difference but same motor and shaft drive as the vollusa, not a bad price only bad thing is not many off the boat yet,  have not gotten to see one up close, the dealership here has a C-50 looks like a sweet ride
You dragged the dead horse into the yard and handed out the bats, sir.

My wife handles claims for an auto insurance company and I remember one time she described an accident where a motorcycle sideswiped a car, but stayed upright - except the rider was having a difficult time keeping his balance on the bike - that's when he realized his leg had been cut off at the knee.

She also heard about a really nasty one where a pickup truck pulled out in front of a sportbike travelling over 100 mph.   The bike and rider were found in many pieces all over the area, and its amazing how far the impact pushed that heavy pickup truck.

me and my leg went on the stretcher seperately back in '76.   It was unpleasant.

Why is it every discussion about bikes always degenerates into horror stories about injury?

Yes, I've been on that stretcher.  Yep, I used to know bikers who aren't with us anymore.

Yeah ok, it's dangerous.  We know.  So is skydiving.  So is mountain climbing.  Do we wanna talk about it all the time?  No not really.  Do mountain climbers discuss how far the splat would spread?  No, they talk about the great view.

I've found that those people who talk to me about how horribly you can be hurt fall into 2 groups.

1 - Those who secretly want to ride but are too afraid/whipped to get a bike and ride

2- Those who used to ride and lost their nerve either because of an accident or cause they never had any nerve.

This is just people who I've met and I'm not implying anything about anyone here, just voicing observations.

Too true swoop viperman.

Bikers in my experience  talk about their mates who've got only one leg/arm but had the bike adapted so they could still ride. Like my mate Scott who paralysed his right arm at Donnington park. He gets his bikes converted to left hand throttle with the clutch and brake lever over each other. Bloody clever and how he rides I don't know but he does and he's quicker than me.

I usualy hear  the horror stories off people who, as you say Vipermann, are too scared to ride or too whipped.

I'm lucky as both me and my girl ride, old clunkers and modern.

Nope...came close once....dropped the HD once...forgot to put feet down and the Main Gate and fell over....the SP asked me Sir have you been drinking....my answer was yep just a bit much....they picked me and the bike up took my keys and took me to queue to get a room and sleep it off..... no damage to the bike.

Hi sided the VF1000R at 80mph and slid for 100-200 feet and stood up and walked back to the bike. about $5000. in damage..then next day I was so sore I could not move.

went down on the 750 once or twice also...always with leathers on only injury to me was a broken wrist.

A couple of small ones, last one was a Honda 125 - rode it to Glastonbury festival where I tried to leap the fence with it like Steve McQueen.
