Yep lots of bikers.

Flyingelk triumphs don't leak anymore. They used to have verticaly split crankases which didn't help along with the perenial problem of the pushrod tubes not sealing. my old 1960 tiger 100 still leaks like a sieve but at least its not rusty!!!:lol

All the modern ones I've owned have been super oil tight.

I think Harleys are ok apart from the tractor jibes ( tounge in cheek ) but to me they suit the long open roads of the USA better than our green lanes and twisty back roads. A little bike or a sports bike work better. Says he with a bloody heavy 1200 Daytona. Still the reasoning for that one is the touring in europe I do.

I've been riding 22 years and I've met some of the coolest people, made lifelong freinds and had some fantastic times and would never swap the bike for anything.

Good to see you all in here and that Ducati 999 is luverly!

Funny pic started me thinking about the real world.

The Japanese spend millions shaving every spare ounce off their sports bikes.

And what do you see but overweight guys in too tight racing suits at biker meets bragging about the carbon titanium this and that that they fitted to lighten the unsprung mass etc.

I always have to resist advising them to spend some money down the gym instead when I'm at bike meets.

Mind you It was always the tiddlers and lightweight bikes I owned that got blown about by trucks etc.

swoop.... don't get me wrong.  I had the bike accident of my 30 year or so biking experiance in '76.   I rode for another 10 years.

I fixed the bike myself crawling around draging the bloody cast and learned to kick left legged (still do) extended the peg on the right side and prayed I never had to use the back brake... the front was a Harley drum so about useless..

But... you can't seperate riding from injury.  In any group of a dozen or so of us there were allways a few sets of crutches leaning against the walls or funrniture.   I didn't quit because of the injuries, I quit because of the regulations and fact that the world was full of little cookie cutter bikes with electric starters and liberated women on em.   Wearing a helmet lessens the motorcycle experiance at least 50% for me.  Having a bike you can't work on is another 20%  the traffic is the clincher.

I rode in all kinds of weatrher but even in California I was either burning up or freezing most of the time.   10% maybe of normal riding is in perfect add type of weather.

and.... you guys look silly as friggin hell on those batmobile looking stupid bikes in your gay neon outfits with all the buckles and goofy star wars helmets with you butt stiking up in the air.

I did like the ducatti my son brought over one day tho.

Lazs I agree! dayglo leathers and stuff look bloody ridiculous. wear em on the racetrack by all means but for street riding they are uncomfortable impractical and look way daft!

:aok

As for the comment about liberated women on bikes. I  fear you've not met the right one. Or your not open minded enough.

My last wife put up with the bike, but was no lover of it. She always thought it would kill me her etc. Nagged and moaned and begrudged every minute I spent on it.

My current girlfreind, rides well, looks damn fine doing it and shares my love of fast two wheeled things. Is happy to crawl round the garage fixing things and has been all over Europe with me on our bikes. I'm a lucky guy.

:D

hmm... we agree on something?

Ok... let me continue in this vein of newfound respect and brotherhood by saying that the black color and styling of all the star wars plastic on your trumpet makes it look somewhat  less idiotic and embarassing than some of the other star wars bikes do.

Yes I can't stand all these plasticy things in bright colours that look like a kindergarten kid painted them. A bike always looks best simple and mean.

(oops I edited so now we disagree too! Can't help it keep thinking of things after I posted )

Done it again. editing time. I might add I usualy strip off as much of the plastic as soon as the resale value has plumeted enough for me not to care or if dropped. My last 1200 trumpet lost its plastic and no doubt this one will at some point.

hmm.... ok.. I will say that all that plastic looks really really funny.  Not "mean" in any sense of the word... Anything on the bike that keeps a man from sitting upright or leaning back needs to be changed.

early brit bikes had a good seating position but were too small a bike to sit comfortably on.   Harleys and Indians were about the right size.

My last 1200 now for sale as the mileage has crept up and I got a good deal on the current one with ridiculously low milage.

So you see I'm not a great fan of plastic and stuff. Just waiting as I say to get the new one sorted. Its the engine I like and the patriotic bit of me likes riding a British product.

Well we agree on the leathers.....mine are gun metal grey (so the salesman told me cos I wouldn't know not being allowed a gun) and black, but let's just agree to disagree about the style of bike.

Nothing wrong with a cruiser, dont get me wrong.....if I could afford multiple bikes at least one of em would be a cruiser for those sunny sunday afternoons when it's far too bloody hot to get all the race leathers on.  But my choice for daily transport will always be a sportsbike, not cos I think it looks cool or for any other reason other than I get places very, very quickly and have a great deal of fun on the way.

One day.....when several vertebrae have fused together and my wrists are knackered from 40 years of weight under braking......maybe I'll come round to your way of thinking.
