MMM Got the same bike as that Zulu guy! Having read this thread I kind of agree with him about some things  though he seems to have got rather baited by a few of you guys and degenerated into mud slinging.

Well xmas might be coming early next week for me. Organised 2days riding on a new 05 Triumph Thruxton next week. Last Triumphs I rode were the Daytona's,Sprint ST and Rocket 3.  Be interesting to see what the Thruxton is like, seating position reminds me of the old Guzzis and Laverda's.

Anyone else tried one of these bikes? I'll try and post a little review and some pics next week.

Nice. When I get bored of speed I might just go for one of those. Right now I'm happy with the old tiger100 for the slow days and the Daytona for the fast ones.

It's 865cc to be exact and rated at about 69 hp and 45 ft. lbs. of torque. Though I don't care much on stats and figures these days.  I took it for a quick ride yesterday and it pulled effortlessly from 70 to 100mph in top gear.

Next week will be the real ride and can't wait. Trying to organise some time at the track as well but the lender isn't so keen on that idea. :D

gixer.. that is a nice bike.  My first bike was a trumpet 40 incher.  It was a TT bike (dirt flattrack) and I made it street legal when I was 15.   I was too big for the limey bikes tho.   Harley just felt right.

The old shovel still exists.  I gave it to my brother.   I like to take it out once in a while... get all misty over just kicking it through and having it cough to life.   I ride it around a little and hope a cop doesn't see me and arrest me for riding without a helmet and destroying the earths aura or some such crap.

Park any of those bikes in a group of new bike and I gurarentee that anyone the crowd will be around them and not the plastic ones.

Same for gixers trumpet... I rarely even look at bikes these days... walk right by em without much of a glance even... they are as interesting as vacum cleaners to me for the most part but... I seen a group of three guys on the coast on what looked like new trumpets and I stopped to look.     One of em had even put on a bates saddle seat... hell... these guys were younger than my tattoos but I did feel a certain kinship with em since they were not part of the horde.  They were talking about TT pipes and they actually knew and appreciated what a "pre unit 40 incher" was.

it's not all bad out there..

oh yeah... the shirt... the guys in the photo and their bikes plus about 4 more like em... well.. we all went to the grand opening of a bay area Harley shop for the free food and "gifts"...

Now, ya gotta realize that, in those days, the bikes in that picture were not exactly the image that Harley wanted to project to get sissy 50 honda (the ones on a girls bike frame) riders to step up to Harley..

They asked us to leave and realized that was a mistake..soooo.. the bribed us... I got a case of those shirts if we would leave..  All the black ones were XXL (too big for me) and the the Xl's were all that blue color... I wore one or another of em for years.  I don't think I was exactly the advertisement that they had envisioned when the shirt was created.

LOL Hyena, you gonna have a rocket powered roller skate when you get done there. Should turn a few heads , that`s for sure.
Yea, that Trumpet has a touch of nostalgia. Brings back a few memories. First thing I thought when I saw it.....Hmmmm ...if you took the motor and grabbed a Paugcho or Jammer to mount it on, throwed away them fenders, found an early style springer............ LOL Guess some things never change.
Laz, enjoyed the pics. Got to go get a new battery for my boat today, but when I get back I`ll try to fiddle with my old scanner and see if I can breath some fire into it to post some more pics.
In `79 I lived in the county seat.  The Prez of the local chapter of the Shees lived down a couple of blocks from me. We used to party pretty hearty. :D Hadn`t thought about him in years until I saw that pic.

going through my pics a couple of things became apparent...  If it weren't for women taking pictures I wouldn't have any of that era and...  Everyone in the pics except me is dead.

I don't really want to glorify those days but I can't in good conscience say that I didn't have one hell of a good time... some of the worst times too.   drugs were relatively new to the populace as a whole and we fed off that.   we fed off the naiveity of the hippies who seen us as some kinda "freedom fighters".

one thing for sure tho... we lived those bikes.   Most didn't even own a car or... would jointly own a caddy or lincoln (only cars big enough to hold six of us)

we lived the bikes and we knew everything there was to know about em... maybe that made us "bikers".   Maybe that is the diggerence today.

but... I will admit that gixer is making sense to me... Who cares about the specs?  you can allways buy more impressive specs... you just can't buy "feel".

ROFL about the shirt story. I can relate.
The "suits" at Harley are going to regret turning their back on the folks that kept their boat afloat one of these days. Prolly along about the time that the Yup Insta Angel craze comes crashing down around their ears. When Willie G. came up with the 5 year plan it was a good move for them. Then the suits got involved a little too much.
Used to be where you could look in nearly any classified section and find 3 or 4 basket cases pretty cheap. Then the Yup phase started here. Immediately following that came the demand for anything Harley in the Euro crowd. Basket cases, parts, etc were shipped in Connex containers by the ship load. Now parts are like pulling teeth and baskets are few and far between at any price.
Sure did put a smile on the folks at S&S and like places though. :D
