I clean my firearms all at once.
I also keep a loaded handgun on me at times.

I guess I'm a ******* idiot.

They key to no gun acidents when cleaning?

Check to make sure its not loaded.

First time I handle any gun the first thing I do is check to see if it is loaded. Not mater who handed it to me.

That's the rule... clear the gun, before you hand it to someone and clear it when you take it.

Dago, was there some kind of Ripsnortian point behind the cut and paste or should we all just enjoy the stories?

Surely you wanted to advocate for something..... did you expect no dissent?

I've yet to come across a gun store owner who dosn't check the gun and tell me it's clear, he checks it and hands it over, and I always check it myself..

But, this one came awfully close to my call the FFA...

I've also entered a gun store where they use bright orang barrel plugs on plastic weapons..

So I do the smart thing and ask if it's an airsoft gun, cause legally it is with the orange tip, the guy says oh no I sell real guns here...

Me and my mom laughed at him when we got in the car..

If only they all did that. - As well as the ~10,000 gun homicides annually in the US, there are also ~16,000 deaths resulting from "accidental discharges". In the vast majority of cases, the person handling the gun "didn't know it was loaded".

Still, that's only ~26,000 gun deaths a year, or four times the population of the town where I live. A pittance worth paying for the right to bear arms. And hey - as Dago has shown, the balance was redressed on SEVEN occasions when guns saved the day. ^

Accidents happen, but you don't see us banning cars, roller skates, foods that people choke, on etc.

Ban alcohol.  That causes more deaths a year than firearms.

Yeah, but you don't see thieves running into a bank carrying BK quarter pounders, and threatening to ram them down the throat of anyone who moves....

In any country outside the US, more people die from alcohol abuse than bullets. Except violent arab countries where there is no alcohol allowed, but many, many guns.

In the US, the number of cases of cirrhosis of the liver is about 26,000 annually - so it's touch and go which causes more deaths - guns or alcohol.

Oh oh, if you want to go that route, Martlet, we have to ban cars.  Then teenage drivers.  And women prone to PMS (I'd support that!)....amongst other things!
