Rofl Lazs so it wouldn't help you personally at all if I would tell you where I'm from? Why do you ask?
I enjoy shooting now and then. I don't enjoy shooting enough to invest $600 to a handgun and then $1-$2 a shot for ammo, making a hefty bill per month on daily shooting. Sure I could make my own loads but that's too much trouble already.
I prefer to invest the $600 to things like my Nokia 9300 communicator, flat screen display or a projector for the home cinema to give a few examples.
Our priorities are so much different from yours that it seems its really hard to understand. Just the basic fact that we do not feel so insecure in our lives to feel we need firearms for protection doesn't seem to sink in still.
Just the fact that I have 2 toddlers running about the house is reason enough for me to not to get a firearm in the house. They're just too dangerous compared to their benefits that I don't trust myself with the risk.
Just as I won't bring the wood chopping axe inside the house for the toddlers to play with I choose to keep my house clear of powder weapons.
And just a hint: If you want to check it up just check practically _any_ european country except United Kingdom. None of them have any other restrictions on gun ownership except having to register / get a legal permit for carry. That's all. (edit: that I know of anyway)
I think in switzerland each citizen actually holds thier government owned assault rifles at thier homes permanently after doing thier service.
