The next election to watch - France, 29th May
« on: May 06, 2005, 03:07:08 PM »
I think that's the date France votes in an EU referendum. Which way will it go? I think it might be close. If it's OUI, they want more power/money. If NON, it might be because they're fed up of les rosbifs buying up their property! ;)

Straffo - how's it looking?

Seriously I think I'll vote again for one single and simple reason :

My current constitution is humain readable
The EU constitution is the un readable collection of articles , a sort of proof of a lawyer frenzy.

so my answer is : NON
and not for the reason you thought :)

Normally, the kneejerk reaction I have to anything French is kinda negative.. (if i was British, others would call the forgoing 'typical british understatement)

But...

I just can't see the French willingly dilute their obstinate 'Frenchness' by becoming associated with 'lesser' European States (anything east of Luxembourg or west of Biscay by their reckoning) in any way, shape or form.

Of course, having said that; no doubt a small majority of the French will vote 'oui' just to prove us wrong.

On the other side of the coin.. why on earth would the resta Europe entertain having the French as 'partners' in anything to begin with?

Betcha alla Europe is hoping France blows the EU off!

(Third alternative: France insists that the EU change it's name to 'Greater France', THEN they'll sign ;))

I could be his father... I got kinda whacked on Mescaline out in the desert about 35 years ago, and I seem to remember porking a parrot.

If France votes NON, that will be another wheelnut sheered off from President Blair's chariot. He's already signed away too much to the EU. Of course, feathering his nest for when he retires from British politics and goes to the graveyard of failed politicians - the EU parliament.
