It's not. But Photoshop is the gold standard for professionals and that's why it costs as much as it does which, as it turns out, addresses the original question that "Your better off spending more time taking photos then more hours in PS" does not.

Personally - I instruct every photographer I use to stay the hell away from Photoshop and let me deal with it. I guess it goes to your point a little; they are photographers.... and I don't want them messing with the pics even just a little because, unless they know how the picture is going to be treated and what paper it's ultimately going to be printed on, they can't possibly get it right and in my experience never have.

PS is best. allways when i drive next to adobe building in SJ, i smile  :)

Torque, AWESOME job both in photography and Photoshop.
If you haven't yet, spend the $149.00 and get the CS2 upgrade. You're going to love it.

i'll take a look Sab.

the local store had the 20D, grip, extra 511a batt and a sweet lowepro gadget bag in a bundle (got home and found a hoya smc 77 mm UV filter in the bag :p). my cost was just over $900 after trading in the 10D, can't complain as they also transfered the 10D extended warranty onto the 20D. picked up a few other things too.

thx again for the heads up on the kelby book, i'd still be using PS for just the basic functions

major hickman emailed me that he'll be back with the viper demo team, that should be fun since he owes me large.

btw, thought this might interest you, 1/20 th shutter speed, racing.

I picked up a 20d a few months ago but only have the cheap lens it came with. I'm wanting to get a couple of better lenses when I start making money again.

Anyway Torque, those pictures of yours are just incredible.

just downloaded Gimp. It is a pretty impressive package. I haven't used Photoshop in years, so I'm not familiar with the latest feature. Can someone explain to me what Photoshop has that Gimp doesn't that makes it worth to pay for?

I haven't used Gimp so I don't know what it offers.
I do use Nik Multimedia as well as Fred Miranda plug-ins that were designed for Photoshop.
Because I shoot in RAW format, I can batch adjust in Photoshop.
It just saves me tons of time rather than opening each file one at a time.

Wow, fantastic! You're going to love the 20D. Its processing so fast, you'll probably never shoot Jpegs again :)
There have been some to complain on the fit of the 20D's battery grip. Before I even knew of those complaints, I used a gasket maker (Permatex's The Right Stuff) and ran a thin bead around the perimeter, being careful around the contact area of the CF door. I just didn't want my persperation and dirt turning into a mud and getting between the grip and camera. If I ever need to take the grip off, I can just cut through it with an Xacto knife. It really feels as if it's one solid piece.

I posted the link earlier, duh..

http://www.gimp.org/windows/

Gimp lacks a couple funny features, most importantly liquify which is cool if you want to make morphed images.

For general imaging gimps price/performance ratio just can't be beaten.

I saw it has approximately the same filters Photoshop had when I was using it.
Also the interface is very simlar, which makes transition from Photoshop a breeze.
